I don't have any personal experience with BuyBuyBaby b/c they don't have any stores in California...BUT, I know a lot of people prefer BRU b/c you can actually purchase stuff online and have it shipped to the Mom-to-Be.

I Didnt have the greatest experiences at BBB, but thats just my story
Lots of girls love it there, so dont let my experience make your decision.

Re: babiesrus vs. buybuybaby
My registry is at BBB, and I have had a very positive experience (sorry yours s*cked, Anna! ).
I chose BBB over BRU because I just liked the selection and layout of the store better. I have already had several people buy gifts online and ship them to me, so I know they DO offer that service.

Re: babiesrus vs. buybuybaby
I feel that BBB's site is awful and not easy to use at all. BRU uses amazon.com so it is super easy to use.
Now, each store offers different patterns of a lot of the same brands. For instance, my metrolite stroller (which the new patterns are coming out over the next few months) will have a different selection at each store - and some the same.
My advise is to go to both stores, go online, and then either a) registry at both for different items or b) chose the one you like best. Also, consider the convience of your guests. If no one has a BBB/BRU around them, you might want to chose the other.

We chose BRU for just that reason, Michele. Our guests live in NJ where BBB is not that easy to get to. I found them to be helpful & knowledgeable when I needed to ask questions & was comfortable going with them. And the online registry is better which is an added bonus!

Re: babiesrus vs. buybuybaby
I like both. I had alot of people from LI at my shower so either one was available to them. I found that BBB carried the stroller I wanted (which BRU didn't carry at all) and they also had the highchair I wanted in the pattern I wanted. BRU had the same highchair but in a different pattern which I didn't care for.
BRU's website is definitely awesome. It's a great place to research products because you get alot of info in the reviews by other consumers. I don't know why BBB doesn't have a better website, they're doing themselves a disservice.
Later on when you are a seasoned Mom and know the price of practically anything, you will find that BBB's prices are generally slightly higher on smaller things. ie, I wanted one of those mats that goes under the carseat so it doesn't slide on leather seats (BTW, this is a totally unnecessary item). I found that the same one was $11.99 at BBB and $9.99 at BRU. I think on the items like strollers, car seats, bouncy seats, etc. their prices are pretty much the same.
Oh yes, if you are looking for $1,000 crib bedding sets, BBB carries them so that's good to know I'm sure
But BBB does have alot of little extra things that I dont find at BRU - they have some gorgeous blankets and clothes, whereas BRU had more standard stuff. BBB sends out 20% off coupons every 3 months. I've used them to purchase my big carseat ($50 off!) and my highchair ($30 off!) so if you dont get some of the bigger items as gifts, wait till you get a coupon to buy. I think Anna said that BRU will honor those coupons but I never had the opportunity to try it.

Re: babiesrus vs. buybuybaby
I'm not a mommy or mommy-to-be yet but I've had alot of friends have babies and some did BBB registries and some did BRU registries and I think BRU are better. They are not as expensive, there's more of them around, and my friends that had BBB said they wished they did BRU afterwards.

Re: babiesrus vs. buybuybaby
Coming from the perspective of someone who has only bought from each of the registries (never registered myself), I can say I absolutely HATE HATE HATE Buy, Buy, Baby!
90% of the items don't have a picture available. I can't STAND that, and refuse to buy something unless I can see the picture first.
That creepy baby freaks me out.
The Babies R Us registry is much easier and more pleasant to use.
