I just want to post for the Moms-to-be that I was told the Baby Bjorn is the way to go, the 'Cadillac of baby carriers'. I personally think this thing kills my back! It's supposed to hold babies up to 30 lbs?! LOL I don't think so, my 15 pounder is giving me sciatica (spelling?)...Anyway, I am seriously considering a sling. I tried one on (without the baby) and they seem so comfy. I was in Zany Brainy today and I saw 2 women with them so I spoke to them both and they both LOVE them. They said they are soooo comfortable and both did the carrier route too and hated it. Just something to think about before you register or buy a $80 Baby Bjorn. I'll let you know how it is if/when I get my sling.

Thanks Elizabeth!! I actually have the Baby Bjorn carrier, but I got it from DH's aunt, so it's not like I paid for it!! Let me know how you like the sling!!

Re: Baby Bjorn Carrier
Hmmm...personally, I think all baby carriers like the Bjorn are made for the Dad's NOT the Mom's! We did not register for any of them, yet we received TWO of them as gifts....neither of them were worth keeping, so we returned them both and bought a Bjorn...but only b/c DH really wanted it.
To this day, I have NEVER used it - most b/c of my back problems from the delivery - but DH has used it ALOT whenever we went shopping during the first few months w/Paul or especially house hunting this past summer. But, if not for house hunting, I don't know when we would have really used the thing so much...the babies outgrow them so fast! Up to 30 lbs??? NO WAY - Paul is only 20 lbs. NOW and we haven't used it for months!

Re: Baby Bjorn Carrier
I have the Baby Bjorn. Derek wears it. Not me. Well I did wear it a few times when Emma was just born when Derek went golfing and we rode around in the cart with him. My only issue with these carriers and slings is, how often are you going to wear it? Emma is 17lbs 2oz and 28' (can you tell we went to the doc yesterday?) and if I tried to confine her in a sling or anything else she would cry and want to get out and crawl around. I got my Baby Bjorn off Ebay for A LOT cheaper than it is in the store so I guess the fact that it just sits in the corner of my livingroom is ok.

Re: Baby Bjorn Carrier
so, are you moms saying that it's only worth it if you're getting the sling or carrier from someone else, or if Dad is going to carry the baby around alot? I won't register for it if it's not going to be used, but if one of my SIL has one, I will ask to borrow it.

Nina - if you have the option to BORROW one, I'd say that's the way to go. I really don't think it gets used often enough to be worth the money. JMO.

Re: Baby Bjorn Carrier
I have heard the sling is far more comfortable and you can 'wear' the baby more with it. The carriers are not supposed to be for the fathers only but I guess men have stronger backs so it is easier for them. It looks small on my DH. I would like to wear the baby especially now that he will be outgrowing the infant carrier very soon. I take him out alot and sometimes the stroller is not the easiest option so it's worth it to me.
