Baby Delivery Story...
I was just e-mailing Bearsbabe my story, and it occurred to me that I hadn't shared this with everyone else....
Rebecca was 10 days early, which was fine, because they thought she was going to be a very big baby.
I had gone for my regular weekly doctor's appt., and they saw that my blood pressure was slightly elevated, and my ankles were a bit swollen. So, they thought I might have a mild case of pre-eclampsia (spelling?). So, they told me I could not to go back to work that day, and that I wouldn't be able to go back until after I give birth (and after maternity leave). They gave me a jar to collect my urine for 24 hours so they could see if there was any protein in my urine (another test for pre-eclampsia). When I came back to return the urine I'd collected, they saw that my blood pressure was still elevated, so they didn't want to wait any longer, since they thought Rebecca was already 9 pounds 11 ounces.
They admitted me right then and there and started the induction process. They first inserted those pills to soften the cervix. In the meantime, I apparently started having natural slight contractions, which were about 5 minutes apart. But, apparently these contractions are not considered 'labor', because they are not the kind that cause you to dilate. So, for the first 10 hours, I waited while the pills worked on my cervix to soften it. By the middle of the night, they started the pitosin (spelling?) to induce contractions, and I started having contractions. After a few hours, I was getting some pain, so they gave me the epidural. I then got some sleep and felt wonderful. My early evening the next day, I was getting stronger contractions, and feeling some pain, so they tried to give me a second epidural (the first one had worn off by this time), which unfortunately, didn't take. Here's where I was glad I had taken the Lamaze classes. It really helped get through the pain, I swear!!! They then had to break my water (the massive flooding then ensued).
At around 10:00 that night, (which is now 36 hours after they started the induction process), we decided to do a c-section, because while my contractions were tremendous, I had only dilated about 3 centimeters. So, we casually prepped for the c-section, and at 10:31pm, she was born, at 9 pounds 2.75 ounces, and 19.5 inches. She was in perfect health!!!!!!!!
Now, at just over three months, she is approximately 16-18 pounds (she was weighed about a month ago, and was 15.5 pounds), and about 24-25 inches. She is healthy and happy. I'm so relieved!!!
