? baby shower how would you feel

? baby shower how would you feel

this is the situation. I am 12 weeks pregnant. My sister just found out a couple of weeks ago that she is pregnant. She is one month behind me.
Now, since we are so close. Would it be cheesy to have a joint baby shower.
AT first i wanted my own, b/c its my first baby. Then I thought my poor mom. And it would be fun to have it together. Assuming she does. Which I think she does. My mom asked DH what I wanted. He initially said separate. But I feel bad doing that to my mother.
But then how does it work we both open presents at the same time.
This is our time to shine, our first baby and the same for my sister.
For moms out there how would you decide/feel?

I imagine there would be a lot of guests in common. Its a whole lot to ask people to come to two showers in a month for two sisters.

I think it will be doubly-fun and doubly-special to share the day. I think you'd just take turns opening presents, she opens one, and then you open one.

This is an event about your family growing -- a shared shower seems very appropriate to me.

I would say together.. gosh I would love to have someone else be there to share some of the limelight but that might just be me. Maybe just two smaller cakes so you each would have your own for your baby.. Plus no offense but if they are seperate and everyone knows your sister is also preggo this way saves you from people asking about her party the whole time at your shower it seems like since your so close in weeks that everyone right now is going to compare you two anyway so why not give them one big afternoon to celebrate both of the new babies.

My only concern would be that would you and your sister have the same guests.. what about inlaws and inlaws extended that might be kind of wierd........ or is it just your side of the family?

I think it sounds easier for your Mom, your family (two gifts that they are going to have to buy close anyway in one big party) and also the men of the family maybe they can all plan a day out together like golf or a game...

I think it's a great idea.. I just wouldn't have the babies share birthday parties down the line.. my husband grew up that way and he is still bitter.. lol

But alas in the long run I only have a older brother and we are best friends... never had a sister so I may not fully understand.

Congrats to you and your sister! That is so exciting! My sister and I both had our first children 10 weeks apart...it made the whole experience that much better.

I'd say to have a joint shower since you are only a month apart. It could be a lot of fun!

its funny you bring that up my hubby mentioned that after we got the news of my sister's pregnancy that our kids would always be grouped together like christening and bday parties. But I think that is easier to keep separate.
I do think it would be easier on everyone. It would be fun.
Our family would be the same then the inlaws from her hubby and my hubby never met but my family is big and loud [italian] so they can sit in the middle as buffers. My hubby's family is small. Plus my hubby's sisterinlaw is expecting with the same due date as mine. But its her second child, so i am not sure if there will be a baby shower.
TIA for all the opinions keep them coming.

I have a similar situation. me and my sil are a week apart. I have a feeling that our inlaws are planning a joint baby shower. Both my sil and I do not want one though- although we do have our dh's family in common. We have my sid of the family and firends and her side of the family and friends and I just tdont think it would work out that great I cant expect people to show up with 2 presents either because that is a big financial burden on some people we were thinking about doing the showers like a month apart to give peopple a chance to recoup.

I voted for 'cant decide.'
My inital reaction was there would be no problem with having them together and in fact it would be nice! I would love to share a baby shower with another relative!!!
My only concern would be on the guests having to buy two shower gifts at the same time. If the showers are a month apart that gives them some time to save up $ to buy the two gifts.
Just something to think about... I think either way its going to be fun.
Good luck on your decision!!!

depending on both your in laws. Tell them all and you and your sister and husbands sit down cause yo udo not want to hurt either side and you do not want to put a burden on your mom as you said. Be clear about what you both want and then decide. That would be the most involved you should be in your shower and make sure both your husbands understand your feelings completely. Im sure they will try to honor both of you. Worse case have a joint one and do not open gifts. SImple and easy and when you send thank yous out send a pic of the gift so they know, you know what gift they sent.

I think it depends on your relationship with your sister. If you get a long well, are close, and you like each others friends, than i think it's a great idea to have it together.

I think its a cute idea. My only problem with it would be that your husbands side of the family might feel like they need to buy 2 gifts.. one for a person they hardly know. And the same thing goes for her husbands family. Thats also ALOT of gifts to keep seperate and figure out who is opening what and from whom. I would keep them seperate and enjoy your day. Try to keep them at least a month apart so your mom & guests have enough time inbetween.

I guess I am very undecided...I think it could be really, really fun BUT I also think I would be VERY careful NOT to group each event together like this. I would NOT do the Christenings on the same date then. But actually I think a joint Christening is better than a joint shower since gifts are not the main event at a Christening. And everyone loves to see babies get Christened.

I also see a few issues:For instance if you do a joint shower, how will gifts work? I mean, you send out one invite to ALL guests and then your sister's in-laws may feel like they need to bring something for you and vice versa...also the gift openings could take HOURS which may not be so fun after a while. And how will this work with friends?

good points. I dont think the friends would be a problem.
Now the gift thing, i didnt think of. I guess i assumed that the inlaws would know to bring only for me or for my sister whomever their related. but then again i dont know.
that is something that would have to be figured out.

I'd say a joint FAMILY shower for you & sis but a separate one for your friends.

I'd say have it separate, and if anything, you can help your mom with your sister's shower, to cushion your mom's pocket.
If not, then I agree with this post.

Is it possible to send separate invites to your inlaws and friends that don't include info about the shower being joint. Send invites to the people you and your sister have in common saying that it's for both of you.

Good Luck.
