BabyFever-HELP!

We are getting married next May (2003) and have talked about kids. Originally we wanted to wait until Fall 2003 before trying. But lately I find myself thinking more and more about it and don't want to wait. I am going to be 29 this year, and I think that probably has a bit to do with it. I know we are going to have to wait, so I guess my question is how DO I DEAL WITH THIS? Is anyone else feeling this way? What can I do to help me deal with it? I don't want to drive my FH crazy. I would rather not even tell him how I feel. I did once and what a big mistake THAT was.

Did you ever think about moving the wedding date up?

BabyFever-HELP!

Even if we did we still wouldn't be able to think about having a baby until Fall 2003 due to FINANCIAL reasons - this is one of the reasons for the wedding date being so far away - we kind of met in the middle. I want to be able to stop working so I need to build a large savings account before I stop working. I wish we could move everything up. Am I the only one that feels this way?

BabyFever-HELP!

Sure, I have felt the same way. I`m going to be 32 in August and I`m getting married in June of 2003. Initially we said that we would wait until around December of 2003 to start trying to have a child but then we came to our senses. Most of my friends have infants so sometimes I definitely get babyfever but the truth is that most of my friends wish they had waited. You want to spend some time just as a married couple for a bit because it will be different even if the two of you have lived with each other for awhile. In best thing to do in my opinion is to spend some time around an infant and you'll see how much work it is. Some people get overwhelmed by the IDEA of having a child with the person you love without taking into consideration all the responsibilities that come with having a child. Just my two cents.

BabyFever-HELP!

I agree with nlp. Do not rush. Babies are a lot of work and money. Spend time as a married couple...enjoy each other...Getting use to being married and living together can be fun but also stressful...do you need the additional stress of a child? You want to be in the right state mentally, emotionally and finacially before you think about having a child. I know it is so easy to get caught up in baby fever. It seems like it should be the natural thing...get married..start a family... esp. when you are nearing that 30 mark...(I am also 29 and my fiance is 30). I can't wait to have kids but my fiance and I decided we are going to get married, buy a house and then start with the kids...so I guess I will probably be about 32 by the time I start. I always figured at 30 I would start...guess I am 2 years off my target but for us I think it will be worthwhile! Everything comes in time....Good Luck in your decision. Give yourself a little breathing room between planning a wedding and family planning.

I did the oppsite..

My FH & I have a 7 month old son. And I can tell you from the stay at home mommy opinion it is alot of work! There can be strains on the relationship but you begin to realize that they are just pety little nothings compared to this amazing creature! I do agree with the others that you should definatley try to enjoy marriage for a while. (at least 6 months) Especially if you don't live together. It is a big diffrence from just dating. But definatley talk to him this is one of those 'big' conversations you need to have before your big day! Good Luck!

BabyFever-HELP!

If your plan is to wait until Fall 2003 to start trying, you will still be a mother in your early 30`s - hardly old, especially by today`s standards. You are not alone, many women get baby fever. With all your wedding plans, it`s hard not to think about the future and all that you want for your life and the love that creates a child together. The baby fever comes and goes though, so I would wait it out a bit. The wedding planning time is such a wonderful and fun (yes, and sometimes stressful) time and you deserve to enjoy it fully. You definitely won`t regret the time you and your husband have to shard together one-on-one. Babies come with alot of changes and while no one can be fully ready for them, it becomes all about the baby. The wedding is the time to focus on you and your fiance. Good luck from another (former) bride-to-be who had baby fever. We are married a year next week and our chid is due in October.

get a puppy

I know this sounds a little silly but it will give you something to nurture and take care of and help to take your mind off of your baby fever until you are more ready for children. But make sure to get a bried that will get along well with children so that when you do decide to have them it won't be a problem. Just a thought.

Alessia....

First of all- my post was not directed to you so I don't know why you answered. Secondly, it is not obvious to me what she is saying and that is why I addressed a question to her. The thread is about babyfever and what to do about it. It sounds to me that she alleviated her own bout of babyfever by having one. I was asking her to clarify just to be sure. There are some couples who have children and never get married, just wanted to how it worked out since they decided to do 'the opposite'

Kate..

I never implied for her to have a baby. I was just explaining to her that I have a baby so I know the stress & everything that is involved. For the most part new brides are not Mom's so as most of you know how she's feeling & how 'great it would be' I told her the stress factor. AND if you reread what I read I told her to hold off for at LEAST 6 months after she was married!

I'm 31 and just got engaged in Feb. (after 8 months of dating). We are planning our wedding for this october, it feels weird to not wait a year like everyone else, but we both want kids and would like to enjoy married life for a bit before the clock ticks too much....so,yes, there are others who feel that way!!

I have baby fever too!!

I am 26, my fi is 38. We've been together for 4 years, living together for 3 in a 1 BR apt that we rent. Our wedding is this June, and we talked about trying soon after. One of the reasons we wanted to get married and not only live together anymore, is to have children as a married couple. Mainly b/c of his age I want to have them soon. I already know that his age doesn't matter, people live longer these days, etc., etc. But, I can't get that out of my head and he has even said that he'd like to have his 1st child before he's 40 (sept 2003). Since we are paying for our wedding, we will have to wait at least 1 year after to save up enough for a downpayment to buy anything. It would be difficult to have a baby in our apt. And, I just finished my Master's and started a new job, so I can't help but think that being pregnant by the end of this year may not be the best idea. But, I would take having a baby and raising a family over working. I (and i think my fi too) definitely have baby fever. My 2 cents is that you have to be emotionally, mentally, and physically ready. Finances are very important, but unless, you are making lots of money, there are always bills. I've heard people say (about $$) that you just do it when you have too, that is give up some things b/c now you have a child. Anyway, does anyone understand me about the age thing??
