Bachelorette Party vs. Bridal Shower

Do you have usually have both?

Is the bridal shower always a surprise?

bridal shower isnt always a suprise.. some brides even plan it themselves. the bridal shower is your close friends and family opening gifts at someones house or resturant. ( Now its even becoming popular to have co-ed showers!)
Bachelorette is your last night out single with your bms or girlfriends and you can go to dinner or a club, or a hunk o mania, or comedy club... just girls!

eta - most girls have both but there is no rules that you have to!

I had both.

A surprise shower thrown by my MOH & Mother which was for family & close friends.

The B-party was my close friends, also arranged by my MOH.

The way that I am doing it is that it will be all in one day. There will be a Shower during the day, for everyone ( the older ladies in the family) and then the B-party will be at night. Everyone that wants to attend and participate in (what ever it is) will bring changes of clothes if necessary and we will all leave together that night. I attended a few like that last year and we had fun. I just figure that that way the guests wouldn't have to fuss too much and worry about taking off 2 sep days to attend.( for those that have to work on sat) Like I do sometimes.

thanks! My MOH is on the opposite side of the country and she most likely will need my help with coordinating the plans. It wouldn't be much of a surprise anymore!

I had both a surprise bridal shower given by my MOH and mother and a bachelorette party organized by my MOH and bridesmaids.

I had both.

My Bridal Shower was a total surprise and my Bachelorette Party wasn't - I helped plan it.

are you talking about a bridal shower and an engagement party
some people say you should pick between these because it asks so much from the guest
