Back from my planning hiatus! Need opinions please! To do fine china or to not?
Hello all!
I've been sooooo lazy with planning this summer!! I went from 110mph with planning to zero in about 2 days. I'm back on track now! I would like your opinions about fine china...
I know its traditional to register for it, but my mom was saying if she uses her fine china once a year, that its a lot. #1 I feel guilty asking my friends and family to pay around $100 for one place setting!! That's insane! #2 I love to have people over and entertain, but I think that the china would only come out for holidays, if that. What do you think? Do you think it's worth it?

we didn't register for china...we'll never use it and if we want china my mom has 3 sets, hers and both of my grandma's that passed away. We registered for really nice white dinnerware and then some nice napkins, placemats and charger plates to dress it up for special occasions!

Us personally, we knew we would never use it. Instead we went middle of the road for every day (price point - wise) and we also registered for things to dress it up (e.g. chargers, napkin rings, fabric napkins, gorg wine glasses, etc.) for holidays I say do w/e fits your lifestyle

I haven't registered yet, but I don't plan on registering for china (or even fancy plates, really) because I know we'll never use it. I'm more concerned about getting sturdy glasses that FH can't manage to break when doing dishes!

no I am not, my mom and grandma have sets if I ever need, but I really don't see it as being important to own any right now.

i'm not registering for fine china, going to focus on everyday plates instead. if you think you will use it register for it but if not focus on the things you will get use out of.

I registered for it because it's the only time I'll ever think of getting it- I can't picture myself ever going out shopping for fine china- but I know if I have, I'll use it on holidays, special occasions, etc.

We did not register for china. We did not think that we would use it. If we ever want to use china I can borrow my grandparents china from my mom!

I'm so glad that you brought this up! I spent most of the hurricane looking at plates online! My mom wants to give me her grandmother's china. So I am looking for everyday plates that I can dress up with a charger for semi special occasions. I just can't decide if I want something simple or a bright pattern. What is everyone else doing?

I have my grandmothers fancy gold-trimmed Lenox china, so I picked out some more 'everyday' Lenox that is pretty but durable, and can be used for every day or can be used for special occasions without looking odd. I'm really excited about it actually, it has a super cute vintage look to it. Lenox French Perle

FH and I were just discussing this yesterday! My initial thought was not to register for fine china, but now I'm not sure...so, I'm not much help! Ha!

So we decided to do an everyday set and a casual china set. It's at BBB and it's plain white, but with a modern twist. The collection is lenox vibe and it's not too bad at all. So we did a cheaper version. Also, with the less expensive version, I think I'd be less worried about taking it out and breaking it.
