Back from Vegas
Hey Everyone!!! I'm back from Vegas (yes, it's late- but I'm totally jet lagged and awake- work is going to STINK tomorrow).
Have to say I am SO glad to be home. Vegas was nice, but it's SOOOOO not my type of vacation. In the grand tradition of me going on vacation I got pink eye- unbelievable right? What am I FIVE? It's all good though, my doc called in the script. Also- to all women on Accutane or thinking about it. When they say do not go in the sun that does not mean go in the sun with sunblock. Boy and I SORRY- my skin kinda bubbled on my arms- gross.
We stayed at the MGM Grand. It's very nice and kept very well. The casino bathrooms were WAY cleaner than a lot of the other casinos on the strip. The pools were very nice too (there are 5 of them and a river ride). We also got upgraded to the better, more convenient main tower as they didn't have any non-smoking rooms in the Emerald tower we were supposed to be in.
You can totally tell you are in the largest hotel in the world though- there are people EVERYWHERE! Winding my way around people is NOT the way I want to spend my vacation. At one point it took us a 1/2 hour to find seats by any one of the five pools... (too much stress for me). Also the drinks by the pool were super expensive.. but that's what you get for the convience of drinking poolside :)
We ate at Emerils New Orleans Fish House. It was good but not worth the $$$. It pales in comparison to the original Emeril's in New Orleans. I HIGHLY recommend the Rio hotel seafood buffet. If you like seafood it is TOTALLY worth the $$ (something like $30 a person). They had everything there (fresh sushi, crab legs, mussles, clams, lobsters, etc). It was VERY good. We also ate at the 777 brewery down on Fremont and DH and I decided that they made the BEST burgers. The Harley Davidson Cafe was also very cool- it was really neat to see all the bikes and pictures they had on display.
We visited pretty much every hotel on the strip and on Fremont. I think the one we really liked was Mandalay Bay- something about how the entire casino floor smells faintly like suntan lotion.
The best thing we did- and the thing I totally recommend is the Pink Jeep Tour to Red Rock. It was SO beautiful to be out in the desert and the jeeps are air conditioned (thank god). We saw wild Burrows (mini donkey horse like creatures) and took an entire roll of pics (which I will post as soon as they are developed).
We didn't see any shows. Nothing appealed to us as most of the music is canned (not live). This really made me appreciate NYC's Broadway and I hope the musicians union is able to keep broadway live (just an aside I do not see any shows that do not use live musicians)! DH thinks I would've liked Sinatra's Vegas and I have to agree. Unless we missed something there was no jazz band for dancing or anything like that... either night clubs or lounge singers. Nothing for a couple that wants to slow dance and not bump-and-grind.
I think the coolest thing I saw was Binion's Horseshoe.. (we are HUGE fans of the World Series of Poker)... what a hoot.
All-in-all- I'm glad we went, but I'm also glad that the next vacation is my pick...
