How difficult is it really to do a wedding at home? Everybody tells me that doing this is too difficult but I've always loved the idea of having a wedding in my yard. I have a very large yard -- big enough for both the ceremony and the reception. The landscaping is good too. Now, I know that I'd have to arrange for not only catering but toliets, parking, etc.
Have any of you done this for your wedding or plan to?
Once again I turn to you for help.

Re: Backyard Weddings
my sister did a wedding similar to this in maine. She rented the grounds and then did everything else they way you would ahve to do it. You will have to rent a lot. But certain caterers may also include more than others. If you do this, you may want to consider a DOC or wedding planner as there are more details to think about. But it is def doable! But dont assume that it will save you money...

Re: Backyard Weddings
My brother's wedding was in our backyard...
I don't think it was much different than planning at a hall..
The only annoying things were:
1) the extensive cleaning and gardening we did during the months before 2) worrying about the rain (and it did rain the whole week before... stopped that morning and didn't start again until that last guest was leaving!!) 3) Day-of setup shorted out our electric circuits, but my electrician friend got it going
After-the -fact it was worth it in my opinion, and I was very involved.. I think it was nice to have had it at a place special to you like that.
Note: it was so hot that day that people loved going into the fancy bathroom trailer for the ac.

Re: Backyard Weddings
First of all, how many people do you want at your wedding? If it's small, it's totally doable.
My FSIL had her wedding at FMIL's house. She only had 80 ppl and it was really tight since her house is not that big. She did not have a ceremony since the yard is small, just a dinner at home. You might consider renting out a tent in case of rain. A few things FSIL did that helped tremendously: 1. Hired ppl to clean the house prior to event and help set up and prep the house. ie- decorate, stock supplies -toilet paper, paper towel, set up tables, linens and such. 2. Hired a chef and have food cater. They provide the full set up. 3. Hire a few waiters to serve food + your normal wedding vendors. 4. Have cleaning crew come back the next day to clean up.

Re: Backyard Weddings
I'm having an outdoor vineyard wedding, and its kind of like I'm using the vineyards back yard.
Rentals are so much more expensive than I ever thought. Just price everything out before you start, so that your prepared.
lucamonis completely right about hiring all those!
Definity hire a DOC to make sure you have all the bases covered.

Re: Backyard Weddings
Definitely hire a coordinator that is experienced with putting together weddings that won't be held at a RH because you will need everything. If you're planning on November (based on your date in your profile) you need to think about how cold it will be and would need some kind of heaters. You need tents, tables, chairs so much goes into that aspect. It's definitely doable! Good luck!
