Bad Bride

Bad Bride

I've been engaged almost three months already. I booked the place 2 months ago... and that's it, I've done nothing else! And, I have zero interest in dealing with the rest of it. I thought this was just a rut but it's been a while now. I went from well over a year to 11 months pretty quickly and still doing nothing. I love hearing about everyone else's weddings and ideas and helping with theirs but I have no interest in my own.

Is there anyone else out there that feels like this??

No such thing as a bad bride. I totally understand where you are coming from. What i learned from my own wedding planning is that there is not necessarily a schedule you have to follow. Some people order their dresses a year in advanced- some in 4 months. I had a friend who planned her whole wedding in 6 months and it was lovely. We are 4 months from our wedding and just booked our florist.

I would start pickign what vendors you awnt to look into soon. The risk is some vendors you want may be booked. Find one thing you are excited about and do that. There is a lot to do and it can be so overwhelming!! Do the schedule that is right for you.

I'm alittle bit of a control freak, so I have no probleme with doignall this, but as long as you are happy about beignmarried, yuo don' t have to be all gung ho about the wedding.

Maybe hire a weddign planner?
Or jsut contact your hall's reccomened vendors & use them. You don't HAVE to looka the best or teh least expensive of every vendor ( unless your budget is really tight)

You do have time though.
I have about 5 1/2 months left & am just getting going.

You should probabaly look into dresses soon though.

I agree that you don't have to be gung-ho about your wedding. I didn't particularly like the planning. As far as I'm concerned, the best thing about my wedding is that it is over!

That said, I think it helps to stay organized so it's not so overwhelming. Break everything down into lists, and tackle one thing at a time. You'll feel better as you start getting things acomplished.

Good luck!

I do.. everyone always asks me things, and I have to get myself motivated to do other things... It will get more exciting when our times get closer!

I am with you. I am about 7 months out. We have the place and my dress. We picked the photographer but still need to do the contract. We think we know who we want for video but haven't made the appointment to meet with them yet. I am working on the Save The Dates this weekend - maybe. We planned the wedding for 11 months after we got engaged and I am moving very slowly. Work has been nuts and my fi is in finals for law school with the bar this summer. We are too busy to plan anything.

I get stressed every time I think about picking the bridesmaids dresses, finding a rabbi for an interfaith couple, finishing the registry, finding hotels for everyone to stay at, finding a florist, finding a hair person, finding a make up person, picking invitations in time....

Oh yeah - edited to include planning the honeymoon!!!!

I was like that too. I kept saying I have soooo much to do but I don't even want to think about it.

So finally I took a 'to do' list from the boards here and broke it down into 3-month periods - like I have to accomplish 'a,b,c, and d' by June, etc ... then i took that 3-month period and broke it down by month, so that I am only truely concentrating on 1 or two things at a time.

Slowly but surely I am going down this 'manageable' list I have created and now I am excited to plan because I am more focused. It's no longer overwelming and scattered in my brain.

That's what helped for me at least. I like organization and in the beginning I was just dreading everything that HAD to be done.

Good luck

Re: Bad Bride

Don't worry! I got engaged for christmas, booked the hall and church in the beginning of Febuary, and that's it......even my FH has asked when we are going to start booking things! I'm not worried we have over a year and I feel more motivated the closer it gets. but I'm gonna start booking just so people will stop asking when I'm gonna start! Hey, if they wanna give me the money for deposits I'll start right now!
