Okay, so I'm on my way home from work and listening to my CD player on the train. Shocking, shocking, I fall asleep and wake up as we're pulled into my station. I get up and start running for the doors, only to have them close as I walk up. One of the conductors is standing next to me and I ask if he can open them--he says no. PS: next stop is Hicksville and I live in Mineola. FH was sweet enough to drive all the way there to come get me so I wouldn't have to spend $20 on a taxi. UGH!!! sometimes I really hate my commute--this is only the 2nd time in 4 years of commuting (to school/work) that I've ever fallen asleep.

It was a Ronkonkoma train, so I guess I was lucky!!! I'm just annoyed at myself because I NEVER fall asleep. I can't wait til after the wedding so I can have a 15 minute commute from work--you know, when we can afford to pay a little more in rent and live near my office!

Re: Bad night
That really stinks. It's happened a couple of times to my FI. He's ended up in babylon (& we live in Massapequa.) He was not happy. I was always afraid of doing that when I was commuting.

Sorry to hear about your night. Conductors can be so rude. At least FH was nice enough to pick you up.

Re: Bad night
Thats weird - usually the open doors if they see you.
Good thing for FH's right! Mine just had to do the same thing on Monday - he picked me up in Huntington because I got on the wrong train - I was mad that I did it, because it was such a stupid mistake.

Re: Bad night
What made me mad was that the conductor was standing in the little vestibule area where the doors are, saw me running up the aisle, let the doors close and wouldn't open them for me with his key. Glad I pay $169/month for this. I think I'll be drinking coffee next time I take the train home

Re: Bad night
Jenn, I did the same thing a few weeks ago..1st time. Ended up in Deer Park at midnight! I had to wait for a westbound train that came 30 minutes later. DH was sleeping or he would have picked me up. Deer Park train station at midnight! Or any train station at midnight! Yikes!

Re: Bad night
How terrible! I would have been so mad! I slept through my stop like 2 times on my LIRR commute. Not good! I am sorry on top of that you had to deal with an idiot of a conductor!

Re: Bad night
I have done that twice... and the second time, some nice lady saw me get up sort of confused and upset as the doors were closing, and she drove me home. Made me feel much better about the whole thing, in fact.

Re: Bad night
I'm so sorry this happened . Luckily, I can never sleep on the way home, I'm always too wound up. I do have to call FH at least once a week though to ask him to pick me up somewhere because my train is so infrequent in the late evening. Thankfully, like your guy, he's always agreeable

Re: Bad night
The worst is changing trains in Jamaica, and seeing the doors close as you hear them say 'Express train to Babylon'...when you are trying to get on the Hempstead train (actually happened to an out of town friend of mine - he now refuses to take the LIEE).
