I sent a few different photog vendors the EXACT package request and asked for a quote for the work. It is amazing to me the difference in quotes for photogs doing the SAME work.....I just don't get it!
500-600 4 x 6 color, B & W, and sepia photos proof album ALL negatives photo cd 2 8 x 10 photos 9-10 hours of work.
Thomas Paul- $1600 K &J- $1200 Artisan- $2500 (approx) Dan Wagner- $2000
I know there are other factors, but not, IMHO, enough to warrant such a discrepancy!

Did you ask them differences in the format they shoot? Digitial, vs medium format vs 35mm? The processing costs differ. -Do they do retouching, editing, cropping of their photos for free or is it extra? -The quality of work differs. I can shoot your wedding with my 4 mega pixel camera and charge you a cheap price, but I won't know the fine details about lighting, staging etc.

Of course...I could have my uncle Moe do it too.
I did not post the responses they gave me, just the prices. They are offering similar packages all around. And all of these photogs have been used by girls on this site. Some are more well known than others...it makes me wonder exactly how much more a 'name' adds on to the bill.
ETA- I don't actually have an Uncle Moe...

Name adds A LOT. If a place has a good rep, they can charge more. There are other variables, but it's the name and the talent. If they're good and they know it, they charge more. also the kind of albums, how much they pay for them wholesale, do they hand print each print or take them to a lab, which lab do they use, etc. Better labs cost more. Also do they have a studio, a staff, etc, - overhead. But after these are all done, a lot of people charge more because the market can bear it.

The more popular ones charge more $$ because they can. Also, some have studio locations so they need to cover their overhead so it's more expensive for you.
FYI - During my shopping, I learned there are only 3 labs on LI that all studios use for printing, so the quality and price is the same. The shooting quality is the only difference.

I dont know if you tried them yet, but you should look into GlenMar photographers in Roslyn. They were so reasonable, and had a great video too!

it boils down to getting what you pay for. The photographers who usually charge more have TALENT. a good eye...they don't take the same ol' wedding shots...etc. your photos are the only thing you hold on to forever. they should be unique, quantity isn't always better than quality.
the best way to pic a photographer is to sit and meet with them, and look at many samples of their work.
