Bagpiper

Bagpiper

OK so this one element keeps slipping away from my mind.

I need a bagpiper.... anyone know of any? What are their prices and generally what do they do?

I'm thinking I need it for the church and then I would like it for our entry. I want to walk into a Dropkick Murphy's song with bagpipes... but I want the Bagpipes part to be 'live'. Do they do that?

Thanks Ladies!

Re: Bagpiper

I'm sure they could do that! Let me ask FH and FFIL, I'm pretty sure they know someone or maybe they used to know someone...but I'll find out, I'm adding this thread to my notebook so I won't forget. Kudos for the original idea though!

That's awesome - I'm considering the same

If you go into the vendors list, there is a link for bagpipers. I have no idea what they run, so I'm really not much help...LOL

If you get pricing info, could you please share?
TIA!

Thank You thank you thank you!!! I <3 you!!!

My friends and I are into punk music and I love bagpipes... so I wanted to collaborate the 2 and Dropkick Murphy's works perfectly for that!!!! I also kinda feel like it makes the entry a little more surprising because it's slightly different.

Whatever pricing I get.. I'll post on this thread... so we can have it all one the same page for other brides to use as well!!!

I didn't even think to check out the vendors page! I should do that too.

My mother met a bagpiper in a bar months ago.... and he gave her his card... and she lost it!!!

I heard that FDNY does this as well. I'm apprehensive about that... because my ex is a fire fighter... and I just feel strange having anything FDNY related at my wedding. Am I just being silly?

I'd feel the same, they all know each other!!! ( I have a FDNY ex also)

Re: Bagpiper

Why don't you call the local Pipes & Drums and see if there is an individual who is interested in coming and playing at the wedding.

My father had bag pipes at my grandfather's funeral two years ago, but it was friends who came to play since they were paying homage to him.

I also work with someone who plays the bag pipes. I can ask him what he suggests as far as getting in touch with someone who can do it at your wedding. Are you looking for one person to play or several? (Just so you know -- it's *very* loud.)

I don't know who the local pipes and drums are? And if they are anyone FDNY related then I'm leaning towards a no on that (unless the price is right... hee hee). Just because my ex is a fire fighter and that would be strange to me for some reason.

I was thinking of having 2. I would do 1 but I feel like he might be lonely and he would have more fun doing it if he had a bagpiper friend with him. Haha! I want the bagpipers to look like they are having a good time (mainly because a lot of people associate bag pipers with funerals and things of that sort). I know I must sound like such a nut job right now.. so I'm going to stop. haha!
Yea... if you get an answer from your friend... PLEASE SHARE!! I'd be greatly appreciative!!!

Thanks

I don't think that's silly; do you happen to know if the NYPD's pipers can do it? My dad used to play drums in the NYPD's pipes and drums band, but that was years ago and he kinda lost contact with the guys after he retired.

You might also luck out with going to an Irish goods store, maybe they know someone. There's a girl on the 2010 boards who teaches Irish dancing - her name on here is megan_gallagher - she also may know of some contacts.

Re: Bagpiper

Oh thank you for that. I will keep her in mind. And the NYPD in mind as well.

I just sent out 3 emails to different companies from the Vendors page. When I get responses I will share them.

Contact Saffron United Pipe Band in Babylon (AOH Div 2) they are the best in NY.
I've known most of them for about 17 years now (I used to dance at Div 2).
They will be playing at my wedding..

OMG you guys are the GREATEST!!!

I mean it!!! LIW girls just pull through everytime!!

I have a number of people to contact now. I will contact all of them for price quotes and then book.

Sandra - THANK YOU SOOO MUCH FOR THAT!! I will call your friend. As soon as I get a chance. I'm at work now haha.. wish I was home just working on wedding stuff... but I pop in and out of LIW during the day. But I will contact him. You said to wait a few hours anyway. So maybe later today when i get home or sometime tomorrow. I'm a bad bad procrastinator... so if I don't call within the next 24 hours... I will still call at some point.. I swear!~ Thanks again!!!

Oh and when I get some quotes I will post them on here.. I did send some emails out so we shall see what they say.

Re: Bagpiper

Great! I hope it works out for you!!

He seemed eager about it anyway, so that's good! I didn't even realize this was the sort of thing he does on the 'side'. And he's not FDNY so he solves that problem for you too!

I am having one at the church. He is going to play as people arrive and as we process out.

He is really nice and he is very reasonably priced. FM if you want more info!

Pipe Dreams Music

Robert Lynch is the one I booked.

Re: Bagpiper

Apparently FFIL might still know a bagpiper but FH knows a euea... (completely spelled wrong) lets just say that he knows someone who plays some sort of bagpipe that starts with a e but I don't think that's what you're looking for.

Still, I'll ask Eric (Best Man) he and Candice know a lot of odd balls and someone has to have a bagpipe with all of these musicians running around!

Re: Bagpiper

Hey there - sounds like you have a lot of options already, but if you still are looking FM me. My FH plays the bagpipes in the Suffolk County Emerald Society pipe band. Good luck!

We're getting FDNY pipers. There is a cost involved, but FH is taking care of it (employee discount lol )
