Re: Baked Ziti help

I never did egg
if you use both you layer
sauce, pasta, mozz, ricotta, more sauce, more pasta
etc

Re: Baked Ziti help

I think you only need to use an egg if you need the cheese to stay together (like lasagne or stuffed shells).

For ziti I just throw a jar of sauce (usually home made marina or prego meat sauce) with mozz, ricotta and a box of ziti pasta into a big pan and bake until the cheese on top starts to brown a little.

Re: Baked Ziti help

I never put an egg in it, and I make it all the time. My FMIL does not use ricotta when she makes her, but uses twice the amount of mozzerella.

Re: Baked Ziti help

I want to make it with a little chopped meat mixed in. Do you just cook the chopped meat and then mix it with the rest of the ingredients and put it in the oven? Also, do you cover with foil before you put it in the oven? Help!
I want to make this tonight.

Re: Baked Ziti help

i cover before putting in the oven...but be careful since it could stick to the cheese...

I would ground the beef a little before combining

Re: Baked Ziti help

Ok, thats what I thought. I am going to cook up the meat and then mix it together with the rest. I will cover it in the oven. Should I add any spices to the meat?
