I love Baldwin, I grew up there...The elementary's are good as is the middle school, the high school I;ve heard mixed reviews. FH & I bought in Wantagh but it doesn't feel as comfy as Baldwin ...What section are you looking?

Exactly. The schools are subpar and if you're thinking of re-sale, you'll not do to well.

Where is the 'subpar' info coming from? The elementarys are very good as is the middle school...If you want to talk real estate, Baldwin has lots of variety in the areas, for example I grew up by Rockville Centre, alot of my friends are from South Baldwin ( Baldwin harbor) still very sought after.

Their state report is all too flattering. The area is nice as far as houses go, but the schools themselves do not do well compared to other districts with a similar make-up.

baldwin harbor is very nice as toni said; but most of the kids that live there go to private school from what i have been told

how about a house in baldwin but oceanside schools, there are some of those for sale i saw

Wow, it is not as bad as some think. The elementary and middle schools are good but I will admit the high school is not that great anymore. But you do not need to fear, believe me it is not the worst out there!

Maybe I just think that way because I did not live in Long Island my whole life. I grew up in Brooklyn and the public schools here in LI seemed like a walk in the park compared to the city schools.

I grew up in Baldwin (the part now considered 'North Baldwin) and my parents are still there. It was a great town to grow up in and I think the schools were great. I do think things aren't as good as they used to be but my section of the neighborhood is still very nice.

Baldwin was 25 out of the best places to live on this list:

agreed. Also, I went to school in brooklyn till 4th grade and I actually enjoyed it more than the LI school I moved to!

My cousin just graduated from the HS this past June. The elem and middle schools are ok, but the HS has gone down hill!!

baldwin is eh.. so so.. u'll be fine for elementary and middle school, as long as u stay on top of the middle school.. and if things don't go sour till high school u'r doing okay.. most places loose it around the middle school age.. if u visit the middle school and it's in reasonable order, the high school isn't gonna be but so bad..

Re: baldwin

i live in baldwin and its really nice. it depends WHERE in baldwin...i'm right on the border of rockville centre in NORTH baldwin so the property value is great, the neighborhood is great. but if u go closer to the west hempstead side its a run down / commercial area.

Re: baldwin

I have heard the area has changed and i also read in newsday recently that they are trying to give baldwin a facelift, by putting a few million into revamping the shopping there. Most people who live there dont shop there, from what was in the article.

There were also ALOT of comments in the newsday article, and some of it was not pretty...lots of ex baldwin people responded saying to get out while you can, and no amount of money will fix it up...again this is from an article i read...i am going to try to find it so you can read it and the comments yourself.

HTH

ETA: Newsday Article, but all the comments are deleted...there is usually a comment section for every article on newsday but when things get out of hand, they delete them...kinda like LIW

Link To Newsday

Also if you do a search of baldwin, quite a few roberies and home invasion stories come up as well.
But that could be any town.

well...i don't know about schools because i have no children...but I really love living here so far. I'm like 1 block away from the border of rockville centre its very quiet (I live off of DeMott) my neighbors are all so wonderful....they always say hello, always willing to lend a helping hand.
