My fiance and I are ready to book at the Fox Hollow (Winter Garden Pavilion room - love it!) and I just found out that the band doesn't have insurance, something that is required by the Fox Hollow.
Changing the venue is an idea, but A) I really love the Fox Hollow and haven't found anyone else that has what I want, and B) I think any other respectable venue will also require insurance. Changing the band is not an option, as it's the one thing my fiance is requiring. I should note, the band is not a typical wedding band - they are a very good Grateful Dead cover band. They do weddings, so I really thought they'd have insurance.
Has anyone else been through this? The band said they usually require someone else to get this, and I am awaiting a response on who that someone else is - but I imagine it's the bride and groom :) The band did say they would look into it, so I guess it's possible that they would get it for us (and just have us pay for it, which I am not against).
For those that have experience in this area - my questions are:
-- How much does insurance like this cost? -- Where would I go for this? A regular ins co? -- What kind of insurance do I need? Liability? Property damage?
Thanks in advance.

Re: band insurance problem
It's liability insurace, and it is the band's responsibility, not yours. All RH require vendors to have insurance.
The band should have it, even if they play venues that are not RH.

Re: band insurance problem
I paid the insurance for the band I wanted. They were not a wedding band, but I was also surprised that they had no insurance. The quote was $188, but it actually came to $271. I did everything - the whole application with my hall's help!
ETA: The company was RV Nuccio. My hall had recommended them. Their phone number was 1-800-ENGAGED. http://www.rvnuccio.com/ Just pick the DJ/Band link.
Not all bands have insurance, WEDDING bands of course, do, but most 'regular' bands don't. My DH is in 2 bands and they perform out, they play gigs in NYC at least 1x a month places like the bowery ballroom, mercury lounge, CBGB (before they closed) all 'decent' venues, and they've never been asked for insurance. The bars have their own liability insurance to cover the people in the bar.
The band I had play at my wedding was one of my DH's fav bands, and they are the artists of our wedding song. We couldn't just 'get another band'. YES, there are TONS of great bands, but I’m sure there is a reason the OP wants THAT band.
My hall helped me get the insurance I needed, because they knew how important it was to me to have THAT band. I would assume her hall would help her as well. If not, maybe it's the HALL she should change if they're not being helpful and not allowing her to have the vendors she wants if she's willing to try to get them covered!!

Re: band insurance problem
one of the bands we considered didnt have insurance either.. we looked into a little and it wasnt that expensive ut the hall needs there certificate a month to 2 months prior so we were going ot have to pay for almost 3 moths, and it really didnt seem worth it.. then we found a band i love even more! they not onlyhave to have it but i believe fox hollow requires a policy that covers 2million

I think you might have to get another band, I don't know of any hall that will allow a band to play without insurance.....

Yes, you purchase the policy in advance but it only covers them for the ONE DAY that you need. I did this and it worked out perfectly!

Re: band insurance problem
we are not having your classic 'wedding band' either, however they have an insurance policy. Most venues require it, bars included. It's a little strange that they don't have it at all, it covers their butts just as much as it covers the Hall.
Either way, the Fox Hollow require a 2 Million dollar policy. A lot of places only require a 1 million dollar policy. It varies.
I believe The Fox Hollow also requires that the vendors be insured for a month prior and after the wedding. (this is ridiculous in my opinion)
So, if you get them insurance, you might have to pay for 3 months, which can get expensive.
Also, make sure you talk to the Fox Hollow and find out if the policy YOU get, will work for their requirements.
A lot of venues do this, just so you use their house vendors. They make it difficult for outside vendors to work at their location.

They are called Reckoning, and I do not know if they play in Port Wash ... I have seen them in Patchogue and Bayshore, and I think they have played the Village Pub in Port Jeff.
They are fabulous!

Re: band insurance problem
I would find a different band. Any band that regularly plays weddings (or ANY venue for that matter) will have liability insurance.
It is NOT your responsibility to pay for insurance for your band. There are tons of great bands out there - I'd find another one.

i wouldn't even consider paying for their insurance. they should have it. plus god forbid something goes wrong with the insurance company, then it falls on ur shoulders and who needs that?

I work at an insurance company and I know we offer wedding insurance. I'll contact the companies directly and see if this covers insurance for the band.

I thought wedding insurance was for the event that the wedding doesn't happen, NOT liability insurance for vendors.

Re: band insurance problem
I thought wedding insurance was for the wedding not happening, too, not the band or vendors. But please look into it if you can - I'd love to know for sure.
As for finding another band - if they were just any old band, yes, I agree, we would just find another. But they are not - they are very specific in what they play, and what they play is my FH's favorite music. I will be looking around for a similar band today, but I have never heard of one and my FH is really, really excited about the band - whenever I mention possibly getting another, he says 'Forget it.'
They are also SUPER CHEAP - I was quoted a price of $850 - that's less than many DJs! So I am considering the insurance, so long as I do not need to pay ofr it for any other day but my wedding day.
