personally, i prefer original artists to covers that i went with a band...plus, bands have a tendency to take a lot of breaks. jmo.

actually... if you hire a wedding band ( a good one atleast) they don't take any breaks

i think bands are more personable and classier BUT also more expensive

I am using franklin wayne.... timepiece... they play everything
i am not a fan of DJ's

I went with a band. So many people I talked to said that bands are great, but they take so many breaks, where as with a DJ the music can play throughout the reception.

I like both, FI wanted a dj....
I think each one can mess up in their own way if they're not good (ex a bad band can screw up songs, a bad dj can come across not-classy & overbearing). But each one can be done the right way as well. I honestly think if we didn't find the DJ that we found, we may have ended up with a band because we were looking for a certain feel for our wedding. But since we were so impressed with him (he was classy, understated, but still fun) & since FI wanted a dj, we went that route and ended up saving money in that area because of it.
Soooo to each his own, but I think that everything is really based on the individual band or dj, it's really hard to 'categorize' either one as better or worse with all the variety out there.
Good luck!!!

i have been to many weddings with bands and not once did any of them take a break...... at a couple of the weddings the bride and groom asked for a soft music played during dinner and either the band played something or put it on

weird that many people say they take breaks

i know mine is there for 5 hours and they said we dont even have to feed them..... we are of course but i think they are going to eat during the cocktail hour

Yes I heard of Paris and I heard them play. They are very good but book up fast. They did not have our day and I heard them a year before my wedding.

I Like Bands better but everyone is different

We're having a DJ for one reason...my brother is a wedding DJ on the side and is doing our's for free!!!

We went with a band. I love the atmosphere bands add to the wedding, but I also have a great time when there's a DJ - as long as good music is playing and I can dance all night, I'm happy!

My band is providing continuous live music all night.

I am torn lol
I like bands that are REALLY good.... b/c I have definitly heard some horrible ones!! I have also been to parties with really annoying djs!!
Bands also tend to be a little bit louder and obviously more expensive....
If it were up to me I might have picked a band but FH absoultly hates them and since he really isnt asking for much I let him win.
Plus we have seen our DJ and we just love him!!

I can't believe it is split 50/50 exactly with 66 votes! We went with a band...

We are having a DJ, we have been to weddings that have had bands and we just dont think it is as good or fun as a DJ is.

I voted band. We are having Time Square Orchestra. I saw them live at one of the bridal events and they blew me away. They are reasonably priced as well (for a band)

If they were around the same price, we would choose a band.

However, since they are not around the same price, we'll probably go with the dj.

Bands are a lot more expensive than DJ's, that's ture....but I went with a band (Code Bleu from Skyline Orchestras) and it was one of the best decisions we made....EVERYONE was dancing...the ENTIRE time! (If you don't believe me, i have the video to prove it )
I loved the elegance that the band gave the event. I just associate Dj's with high school dances and Sweet 16 parties...JMO.
Also, my band never took a break - constant music through out...and they sounded so much like the original artists that I forgot at times, that we even had a band!
