Re: Band or DJ...
I got a band-I love that live energy feeling! I'm a musician and so are a lot of my friends that are going to be at my wedding and I really wanted live music-JMO btw-Paris is a great band! I've heard nothing but good things about them!!!! A friend of mine is using them for her wedding in Aug. I know they book up pretty quickly, but go check them out they perform showcases quite a bit. Another really terrific band is Heart and Soul, try to check them out as well...they (heart and soul) are $$$ but well worth it! good luck!
edited to say: Heart and Soul is a Franklin Wayne band

I hired a band too... If you can splurge a little - go with it! We cut back on stuff so we could have one!

Re: Band or DJ...
Im surprised so many people said Band, I never liked them. I've been to maybe 3 weddings that had a band and was bored to death, no-one danced and the music ( different bands) was 50/50...some great songs , some horrible renditions...
I guess its personal choice but as a guest I prefer a DJ........

We got a band by the name of Skyline. They are a great 9-piece band and not as $$$ as other bands....

Re: Band or DJ...
I think honestly it largely depends on the band - there are bands and then there are BANDS!
There were many bands I heard that I thought were plan horrible - some showcases they were actually hitting wrong notes!
Anyway - I had a band and don't regret it for an instant they had my guests up and dancing ALL night long - even people who SWEAR that they NEVER dance PERIOD were running to the dancefloor with their spouse -
Cocoa mentioned that she doesn't like them because they take breaks - that is so true - In addition to my band being amazing they don't take break - they have continuous live music all night - but MOST of the bands I looked at took short breaks on and off during the night - just something to look for. (I used Times Square Orchestra in case you are interested)

Re: Band or DJ...
Just my opinion but bands get the fortunate stereotype of being more 'elegant' or more 'classy'. However, the right DJ can pull it off as well. It depends what your personal preferences are and what you are looking for really - there is no right or wrong. In the last three years though I have been to countless weddings and the crowd as a whole definitely seems more lively and has more fun with a DJ. We decided to go with a dj after looking at several 'very good' bands that in our opinion just didn't cut it. We like all types of music from classic Etta James to 80's Prince to U2 to Dean Martin to Sean Paul to Josh Groban plus many more - Haven't come across one band that can pull it all off. And if you like to dance to Spanish music, for example, like Salsa/Merengue forget it - their version is La Bamba or J. Lo which is not Spanish music, drives me nuts and I'm not even Spanish. Just my personal opinion. I know several people, some in my family, that have said I'm crazy for not going with a DJ but I KNOW we did the right thing for us.

We hired a band. It really depends on what you like/want and also how much you want to spend.
