we got a band. we were going to get a dj, but after attending a wedding with a band it changed our minds...

This is totally a matter of personal preference...depending on your favorite music, budget, and type of party you want to have.
We're going with a band because my FH plays an instrument, we both love live music (it really fills the room), our favorite music won't get butchered by a band (ie rap, metal, or dance mixes) and fits the type of event we want to have for our wedding. If you find a good band, they can play just about anything and almost exactly like you're used to hearing it...but if you want exact - a DJ is a better choice for you.
Both are great options.

ppl who say a DJ is better...thats bc they never heard a good band! and all weddings ive gone too that have DJs honestly were never better than a band. Im personally having a band...but we almost booked a DJ. There are some good djs...im not saying there arent...but a good band will have you on the dance floor so much better than any MC!

Personally, I prefer a DJ. A little less expensive that a band, so that is why we added a singer also.

Band, I didn't have to think twice about this. We booked The Mystic (themysticmusic.com). Check them out at one of their shows, they play at Hudson and McCoy in Freeport often. They were AWESOME! People will remember music at your wedding, so don't cut back here. There is nothing like live music at a wedding. What other event in your life will you have a live band? This is probably it so go for it!

I had a DJ for 2 reasons.
#1. MUCH MUCH MUCH cheaper
#2. I like the songs the way they are played on the radio. I HATE when a singer in a band is playing one of my requested songs and it sounds totally different!! I also wanted all kinds of music from Barry White to Adam Sandler LOL and no wedding singer can do it all IMO

We booked a DJ... although went to a wedding a couple weeks back who had the most amazing band playing! I just had to wonder how much it cost them! But we are happy with our DJ decision!

DJ!! It never was a consideration for a band for me. It's a matter of what you like and my family isnt into Bands. I cant imagine a band being able to play hip hop, merengue and salsa (LOL).

I would have preferred a band but my FH likes DJs better. As a compromise, I'm having a percussionist and sax player play with the DJ.

We picked a band. IMO the most important part of dance music is how the instruments/backround music sound and not whether the singer sounds the like original artists. The beat gets every one dancing.

Definitely band...I have only been to one wedding where there was a DJ and it felt like something was missing. The band is more expensive, but usually it is worth it!

I prefer bands and love hearing live music. We received so many compliments about our band. However, if you're looking to save $, you can definitely save a lot by choosing a DJ.
I agree and my FH is a musician so one of his must haves was a band
