Band or DJ?

Original post by BlueEyes

What is everyone's choice of music entertainment????

Seeing the price of live bands, I think I'm leaning towards having a DJ.

we're doing a DJ. i think a live band is cool, but there's just something about hearing the real song and not someone doing an impression or their 'take' on your favorite song. it's just not the same for me!

yeah, i feel the same. it's a matter of convincing the FH now! also, aside from the costs of having a band, it's nearly impossible to find one that sings in 3 languages (i'm polish, fh is croatian, and we of course need english music too) oh the joys of planning the perfect wedding!

Thats funny. I feel the opposite. Something about a live band makes me feel like I am at a wedding, and not another affair. I went to two weddings this year where the DJ was litearlly BLARING the music and you couldnt hear the person sitting next to you. I just dont want that feel. One of the DJ's was supposedly very well known too... Bravura. They didnt have the instrument mix tho.

A little expensive, but we are trying to find a band that already works w/ a DJ. Bravo Sound is actually a great company, I have been dealing with them and they seem to be the perfect fit!

I'm actually a little nervous about this as well. When we go looking for a DJ i want to make sure the DJ knows that I want my guests to be able to hear one another. I don't want them going home with ringing ears.

IM GETTING A DJ FOR THE RECEPTION (I HAVE NOT STARTED LOOKING YET SO ANY RECOMMENDATIONS? I WANT PEOPLE UP AND DANCING)

FOR THE CEREMONY AND POSSIBLE CH - IM LOOKING INTO A QUARTET. I'VE REC'D PRICES BETWEEN 700-1000 (TAX FREE IF PAID IN CASH) I WAS ALSO TOLD TO CALL JUILLARD SCHOOL OF MUSIC - THEY WILL SEND STUDENTS FOR CHEEP AND THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE BETTER THAN ANY 'WEDDING BAND' AS FAR AS QUARTETS OR SOLOISTS GO.

FH's cousin is a DJ so we are definitely using him they're awesome - for cocktail hour I want a pianist but I don't want to have to pay a ton so I'm going to my school's music dept. to see if I can hire a student for an hour or so

I'm using a DJ. I want to hear the songs by the original artist. I also like the range of music that you can have with a DJ. I can have salsa, merengue, reggaeton, hip-hop, R&B and house/techno. Also cost is another major factor. DJ's are much less costly than a band.
