We are spending about $9,200. This includes a piano player for guest reception prior to the ceremony; two ceremony musicicans; jazz trio for cocktail hour and a 9 piece band for the reception.

Re: Band Pricing
I am paying $9,000. That is for a jazz trio during the cktl hour and 8 piece band (I think it's 8 pcs). They play non-stop throughout the whole reception.
If you are scared of that number, don't be - there are plenty of great bands that are less money. The band is the one thing my Dad was really into.

Re: Band Pricing
I paid around $8,000 - $9,000 can't remember the exact price.
Several months ago I was told that the same band is now pricing around $15,000 since all the publcity of Jamie-Lynn Siegler's wedding.
I'm not sure if it's true, if anyone has received a recent quote from NYC Swing, I'd love to know what they charge for 12 pieces.

Re: Band Pricing
NYC Swing is now indeed charging a small (or large) fortune. But they are amazing -- we saw them at that wedding and they were incredible. Anyway, I will say, there is still room to haggle, we did get them down a little.

I was told that the band members don't get paid that. It's really their booking agent. That stinks. The band members don't even get close to that amount!

Re: Band Pricing
We're using NYC Swing and were quoted about $1,000 a piece for a Saturday night. We're getting married on a Friday, so the price came down a bit. I must admit they're throwing in a lot of extras for the price they're charging... ceremony pieces, jazz trio for CH, plus the 13 piece orchestra. FH and I are musicians, and this is one place we didn't mind spending extra $$$.

Re: Band Pricing
The booking agent part is true if you use someone like Hank Lane. NYC Swing (at least when we booked) is represented by Steve Shane and Dore Quattro, the drummers, both of whom are in the band...so they are getting the money. My wedding is on a Sat night and there was still some wiggle room. Often, they are more apt to throw stuff in (this is what I found true with all vendors including caterer as well so far) than actually lower the price.

Re: Band Pricing
So those two people get the bulk of the money?

Re: Band Pricing
No, the whole band splits it -- just the point that there is not a booking agent taking an obligatory 30% off the top. I actaully, even though the band is $$$, prefer knowing that it is being paid to the band and not a middleman.
