I am using NYC SWING on sat night so they do not really let you cut the band down. Sat night you have to book the whole band which is why is it is more $$$. I think they are more flexible on Friday and Sunday, you can book 8 or 9 pieces which would bring the price down. However after seeing them perform live I wouldn't consider cutting them down, they are amazing!

NYC Swing is now indeed charging a small (or large) fortune. But they are amazing -- we saw them at that wedding and they were incredible. Anyway, I will say, there is still room to haggle, we did get them down a little.
I'll second that there's some wiggle room. We went through Dore (who we enjoyed working/negotiating with) and got 12 pieces on a Saturday night plus string trio for ceremony and jazz trio with standup bass for cocktail hour, and it was well below $12,000. What we had going for us was that we did our planning relatively last-minute (maybe 1.5 months ahead) and they were available on our date (at the end of March). At that point, it's a whole different ballgame - their decision comes down to either working and making some $$ or not working at all on that night.
I think that most brides on here are planning far in advance, so the savings may not be possible, but if you're planning on an off day, like a Friday or Sunday, or during the winter, you'll likely see significant discounts from all of your vendors.

WE ARE SPENDING 8000.00 ON OUR BAND BUT I DONT MIND. THEY DID MY BROTHERS WEDDING AND MY MOH WEDDING AND ARE WELL WORTH IT.

Our band is expensive...about 18K...but we loved them and thought they were worth it!
There are so many wonderful bands out there that you are bound to find one you love and in your price range!

who did you hire for 18K? I'm curious- my mom plays at that level- I'll probablyl know 1/2 your band (they were probably guests at my wedding).
