I finally booked my hall and now I'm trying to decide between a band or a DJ. Any opinions or recommendations for either? If you have pricing that would be helpful too!

Personally, I love the sound of a band, but I know they are much more expensive and there are some great DJs out there. (I'm not too helpful, am I?) So, I guess what I mean is, if price is not a problem, I would go with a band.

Bands are much more expensive--generally $4-6,000 or more...We felt it was one area where we wanted to spend more to make it a more formal occasion by having a band...

Congrats to you! IMO I love live music. If you can afford it, go for it. There are great bands out there that will work with you on price.

Re: Band vs. DJ
I love bands but my fh isnt crazy about them.. he really likes hearing the real version of songs and thinks bands are too loud.
I think bands look very classy. They are expensive but then again the price we are paying for our dj w/ all the extras isnt much less then some of the bands I have seen.
Since I wanted a band and he wanted a dj we compromised. We got a dj and added live music.. percussion player and a saxaphone!

I'm using LISOUND, they're a vendor on here. They are WONDERFUL. I chose a DJ only because a band was more expensive. I also think that if I got the band free I still wouldn't want one. LISOUND has a nice package which includes lights, CH music, slide show of our baby pics etc....Good Luck with your decision

If it's in your budget I would go with a band. FH is a musician and we considered it. It wasn't for me (budget wise) as I'm only having a 100 person wedding on a Monday. Some bands cost what my entire reception bill is.

I'm so in the minority here but I am NOT a fan of bands at a wedding. I love a dj because I like to hear the real songs. To me, a band provides a 'prettier' atmosphere, a dj a more fun atmosphere. I guess it depends what you want for your wedding.

I tend to disagree... I have been to weddings with both and every wedding with a band I have more fun. Maybe it's the style of the DJ's, but I love live music, it's so classy and the right band will have the crowd up the whole night. JMO.

Bands are significantly more money. But hey if you have cash to burn... go for the band.

I agree. I hate bands at weddings. A dj provides a much more fun atmosphere and also a wider range of music ability.

it's so classy
This is my biggest beef with band people. And searsc, this is totally not meant to be directed at you personally, but I cannot stand when someone tells me a band is classy, thereby inferring that my wedding will be less classy simply because there will not be a band. I don't see how either makes a wedding classier.
Sorry, this is just one of my biggest pet peeves of the process since I've had to hear the classy argument from basically everyone that I know (except my family).

Re: Band vs. DJ
i was going to go with a DJ but my mom really wanted a band. when my FH and i went to some showcases, we changed our minds. we felt that they bring a great energy to the party. but i've also been to weddings that are classy and had a DJ, where the attendees were having so much fun, and the energy was just as great. i guess it also depends on who's at the wedding...

Re: Band vs. DJ
I have to say a DJ I think I enjoy the music when it is the original and it brings back memories when you hear it. Also every wedding I have been to people dance more at the DJed parties more than the band. I am using Ralph from Hi-Energy and I am paying $1000.

Re: Band vs. DJ
I think bands have a more elegant appearance, but I actually prefer a DJ. My friend is the leader of an excellent wedding band and I could have had them at cost, but I decided on a DJ anyway, for me, there is nothing better than hearing a song by the actual artist. But a band is definitely more formal looking than a DJ. I also like alot of music that can't really be done by a band.

No worries, I did not mean to infer that at all. It is completely a personal choice, each wedding is classy and different in their own way. Sorry to offend.
