Ok so FH are not DJ people we love live music - we found a band we fell in love with and have listened to other bands - we didn't realize how expensive bands are, the band we fell in love with is not the most expensive but is $1000 more than we had budgeted to spend.
Now I'm thinking - should we go for broke with the band that we love or start looking for DJs?
Getting a DJ would save so much money that I'd really rather spend buying furniture for our apartment/ a car/ or adding some to the photography budget (which was my most important part but had to cut the budget) we have cut so many corners so far and sacrificed different things we wanted to save money for a band.
If you girls don't mind could you suggest DJs and if possible send me some price quotes that you may have?

the dj i hired has options to adding live music with is cool you get the dj and a band atmosphere too...

Keep looking... We found the perfect band and unfortunately they are booked for our date so we're continuing to look. I know we'll find a band we really like. In your case if you don't find anyone, maybe you could spare some $$ from something else and get this band. If you really like them don't make the same mistake I made and wait. You may lose them.

I agree with the band posters. If you want a band, try to find one you like in your budget. My band was very reasonable and I highly recommend them. You deal with the band members not a booking agent so there is no middle man fee. I hope you find what you love!
Also, I agree with trying to cut somewhere else for the band. I wouldn't have been happy with a DJ if I really wanted live music.

I originally wanted a DJ but FH insisted on a band...I thought they were going to be all so expensive. We found a band that we REALLY love & booked them. I was actually surprised at how in-expensive they were. Not much different then the DJ quotes I have been hearing

If you truely have your hearts set on that band then go for it! Remember you'll get a ton of gifts and money at your wedding and if you already gave up so much and cut so many corners, just give yourself this one thing! But you wanna save a TON of money on pictures, tell them you want only your negatives! trust me you'll save so MUCH! Also give out like 10-20 dispostable cameras to several of your guest to take random pictures for you. I know a bride who did that, and those pictures turned out better than the one her photographer did.

FH plays three instruments and many of his guests were members of the SU marching band. so we MUST have live music. If you are truly lovers of live music, there has to be a band out there that fits in your budget. I tend to prefer live music over DJs and this was one area we felt was worth the sacrifice of money.

get a band!! spend the money. it sounds like a band is important to you. you can skimp on other things. if you have your heart set on a band, get it. you only get married once.

I agree...I love my band too, but I wouldn't have wanted to spend a ton of money, or feel like I totally blew my budget. I'm having a DJ (don't know whic one yet) do my ceremony, cocktail hr and reception. Getting married at the hall. We want to hear a lot of different styles of music at the reception, too, and the DJ is just the way to go for us.

My sister had a great dj. Never Stop Jammin DJs. located in Brooklyn. They were unbelievable and everyone raved about them. Can get info for you if you want.
