Re: band vs. dj
bands start around $5k for a simple band.
DJs can start around $1k.
bands also don't play every song known to man, so if you have a rare song or a special song you really want done and they can't play it, their attitude is kind of 'too bad.' the major benefits of a DJ are the costs are controllable and they can play ANYTHING you want.

They are more expensive then a DJ! I love live music and thats how I made my decision! I'm using Body Heat Productions I saw them at a showcase and people were on their feet dancing. Go to a couple of showcases and if you love it you can find a reasonable band!

Bands are definatly way more than you'd spend on a DJ. Figure around 6k... We got a REALLY good deal with Peter Greco. We're having 8 pieces for 1k less than we'd spend on a 7 piece with other bands... OR we couldve had a 10 piece for the same price as a 7 piece band...
Most bands just put on a song from an ipod or something during breaks and THATS why I booked Peter Greco. They play NON-STOP... each member takes a break at different times so theres ALWAYS someone playing...
If you have a special song u want played that they don't know, they'll try to learn it. THeyre very nice people to work with and have been in business MANY years.. like 20 or 30+... Theyre located in Great Neck I believe..

I knew I def. wanted a band too. FH and I love live music so a DJ was never an option for us. We had already seen our band, Soul Revival, at a friends wedding and thought they were great They played music the entire night for my friend, she didn't want a cd or ipod put on, so I believe that at least one musician was playing during their breaks. You should just talk with the bands you see about this. i would def. recommend seeing them live, a showcase works best. I know my band is having one soon b/c another friend of mine is going to see it. Also, when I met with them, I told them that I had a few special requests, like FH loves Grateful Dead and I love Dave Matthews. It's not on their song list, but they are playing for me, Two Step by Dave and They Love Each Other by the Dead for FH, plus some others that we want. Maybe some bands have a 'too bad' attitude with requests but mine didn't. I would def. recommend them Their website is www.soulrevivalband.com Sorry, my answer was kinda long but I HTH!!

Bands can range from $5000 to $25000. The best bands are the ones that make you happy. It's a very personal choice. I'm definitely a band person and loved my band. After seeing at least 10 of them I was thrilled to find them.
My band did every song I asked them to play. They learned a few for us too. I find that having live music really energizes your crowd and is very versatile.
I have recommended them before but I can't say enough about them. Niteflight, 9pcs around $5k.

We are having a band. They have been willing to learn any song we ask and they do live continuous music. So there is always some live music being played while they take turns with breaks.

same with our band. IMO it's worth the expense, they learned new songs for us. all you have to do is ask.

we are having a band and are really excited about it. i'm a huge music fan and love live music...our band is willing to learn a few songs for us and they gave us a sheet that asked who our favorite bands were, and what kind of music we wanted at our wedding. also, our band had a song list that also helped us pick them...
it's really a personal decision, i've been to weddings where the dj is great and weddings where the band was great...and also where both were awful...i would go to as many showcases as possible...that's what we did and we were really happy with who we picked!!!

Ditto. We had a band. They played every song we wanted and they did not hook up an IPOD - not for what we paid them. It was not 5K and it was not 25K - somewhere in between - and worth every penny.
There will be fans of bands and fans of DJs. There are DJs that cost as much as bands and vice versa. One is not better than the other, it is personal taste. I happen to be a band person but I have never had a bad time at a wedding because there was a DJ - only when the DJ was lousy. And there ARE lousy DJs just as there are lousy bands.

I couldn't agree more!! I love my band and we are very excited about them playing at our wedding-- but I have a BLAST at every wedding I go to (whether Band or DJ) as long as the music is great!! We love live music, their voices are fantastic and they are so talented-- so it was worth the money

Re: band vs. dj
For us - it was an easy choice - a DJ. There is nothing like the original tune with the original performer/s. There was no question for us (although my parents would have liked a band). We were not going to compromise on this.
