I'm trying to do as much online research as I can to figure out which bands I want to see. So far, I know I want to see Body Heat (loved their videos on their site-- all the vocalists sound great and they're 'high energy,' which I like). Others that I thought sounded good were Elite Music, Ron James, and Dwight Howard. I've also heard good things about Faze 4, but they don't have any video/audio on their site. And, of course, I'll see all of Skyline Orchestras' bands.
Does anyone have other suggestions? I'm especially looking for bands that have video or audio clips on their site, so I can check them out before I go to a showcase (I have a panic disorder, so it's hard for me to get out and about. Have to be choosy. )
Thanks!

I am using Dwight Howard and they are great. You can see their stuff on their website or make an appointment and they will give you a videotape. They are great!! We're working with Bob and he is SO nice!

Re: Bands I should see?
we ended up booking body heat! my fi LOVED code bleu but i really wanted heart and soul, so to compromise we decided to look for another band that we both could agree on.
our friends booked skyline and they really like them!
this has to be tough for you!

I am not sure of web sites but we enjoyed seeing Heart and Soul and Timepiece. Both were very energetic.

Re: Bands I should see?
Thanks! Yeah, Peg, it's completely weird. I worked for Skyline's office from the time I was 16 years old, and the band leader for Code Bleu always told me, 'When you get married, you'll have a free wedding band.' Little did he know then that I would marry someone who's IN Code Bleu! Ha!
The thing that makes it a little weirder, though, is that FI has worked in the wedding band industry for 10 years or so, so he knows lots of other band people. And his ex-girlfriend is Timepiece's lead singer, so they're out. Too bad-- I hear she's very good!

PS to Peg and Jen: my FI also subs in for Heart and Soul. I've never seen them, but he says they're very good. Forgot about them! We're going to see them, too.

Re: Bands I should see?
i really liked the fact that they played such contemporary music, but my fh wanted more of the traditional 'wedding' stuff and, he really did not like the male singers all that much. the female leads are amazing!
my only critique of franklin wayne bands is that all of their bands seemed to have equipment problems. there was a lot of feedback from the mikes. i saw timepiece, heart and soul, the main event and daybreak's night and they all had that problem and they played super loud!
i have been a vocalist and a violinist for over 15 years. music is super important to me and i tend to be overcritical. i think the most important thing to look for is the overall energy and sound of the group. for me, it was body heat, they played together and looked like they were having a great time singing. they made me want to dance at the showcase! that solidified it for us. plus, we took our parents and they loved them too.
lots of luck to you; when you find the right one, you'll know!

Ah, peg, a kindred soul. I was a singer for many years, too, and am always a musician at heart. For us, the band is going to be the hardest choice, I know, because we both know how important music is in our lives. I like singers with guts and personality in addition to talent. Exactly as you said-- it's important to me to feel like the band is having fun. You gotta feel music in your heart. Peg, where do you perform? Are you in a band/orchestra?

Re: Bands I should see?
Has anyone seen the LI Paramount bands? They have a bunch of showcases coming up (for Renegade, Majic, Arcadia, etc.) and I don't know if it's worth seeing them.

Re: Bands I should see?
I used to sing for about 10 years and I played piano for years so I was rather a pain about music. I heard a lot of tapes and some bands at weddings. We booked Times Square Orchestra (Website ) they showcase - and unfortunately whenever I recommend them they are often already booked. Joe is wonderful to work with and their female singer has a great voice. My dad is very picky about music either and he is really excited about this group

Thanks, Rob-luvs-me! Just called them and left a message to ask if they're available. Their next showcase is the same date as Heart & Soul's next showcase. Hate that! I gotta clone myself!

other than my shower, i really dont sing any more
i wish i had time, but my job really prevents me from anything fun, plus with grad school, my nites are filled. now that grad school is over, i was thinking about finding a peforming arts school to take some classes. i used to go to ****erson performing arts in freeport (now merrick) when i was younger.
edited to say: the name of the school is not profane, i dont know why it is blocked out! it was d.i.c.k.erson, lets see if that works!!!!

Re: Bands I should see?
Thanks, Mel! I'm listening to them on their site right now. They sound good! But it looks like they don't do live showcases, huh?
I did some searching through the old posts on this board, and, as far as I could tell, the bands that were recommended the most were (in no particular order): Primetime Live, Next Faze, Original Faze 4, Body Heat, Heart & Soul, Renegade, Timepiece, Times Square Music, True Blue, Full House, Code Bleu, and Rhapsody. I'm kind of obsessed with this, so I may even write up a stat list to see how many recommendations each band got, and then share it here.

Re: Bands I should see?
Thanks, KFA! Boy, a lot of the gals here love Body Heat.
Peg: congrats on finishing grad school! That's terrific! Now promise me you'll find time to sing again. I hate to see talent go to waste! I was a professional actress/singer until about 6 years ago, when I got my (stinky rotten) panic disorder and had to quit. I miss it EVERY DAY. I live vicariously through FI a bit because he's a musician/singer/songwriter, but it's just not the same. Now I just sing in the shower and the car.
