I am so tired of making appointments to just listen to CD's...can you ladies provide me with the names of some bands that showcase and/or show videos in addition to just playing CD's also...what you know about the band as well... THANKS!

Annieb, I felt the way you did. I had the names of all members of the band listed on my contract, with the right to cancel with full refund if the band leader or lead vocalist became unavailable. They also show you photos, some of which are posted on their web site as well. Perhaps they use the line because its true. I don't consider your comments an attack in the least. After all, I already had my wedding, and know that I was extremely happy with my band!

Steven Scott does not show videos for a reason. You can figure it out. Also, they own the names of some of their bands. Central Park is one of the names they own.. But they can't own the musicians. You are right, if the musicians leave, you don't have the same band. Also, they do add people to their band photos. Their top band and leader for 14 years, 747 ORCHESTRA resigned his full partnership (That should also tell you something) and opened his own company and is booking at competive prices-(my best friend just booked them) You should give him a call. He has played many high end weddings and in the FINEST venues. He is a great bandleader and equally a pleasure to work with.

Definitly worth going to a showcase! I went to see Timepiece last night and they were great! 35 minutes of playing really gave me a feel for what they can or can't do. Now I'm just trying to figure out when the next showcases are. Did anyone book based on or at a showcase?

Re: Bands that Showcase or show videos
current affair sends videos - they were amazing at my wedding. The best band I've ever heard - people were trying to book them for their weddings even though they had already left deposits with other bands. They were THAT awesome.

Re: Bands that Showcase or show videos
I just wanted to add to all this. Whether you see a band live, watch a video, or only hear a CD--whatever band you book can change their members at any time. Also, you may fall in love with a particular lead singer and want that band because of him/her, but what happens if that person happens to come down with laryngitis the weekend of your wedding, or has a family emergency? My point is that no matter what company you go to, you can never be guaranteed that you are getting the exact people you saw or heard. I booked a band without seeing them live, but based on their reputation, I did not care whether I got singer A or singer B..... I knew that they would not provide me with a crappy performer because their reputation is on the line. Any good vendor knows that a wedding is advertisement for themselves.

You have a point, however If I am spending that much money on a band I have a right to see who that person is. At least I feel the company who lets you see the band live or on video is not hiding anything. I am a little annoyed at excuses from companies why we can't see a video.

Re: Bands that Showcase or show videos
there is a showcase in Jericho Terrace on January 22nd, and I know they always have a band showcasing. In Russo's on the Bay I have seen band showcasing, if you call them they would tell you when they will do one.

defintely go to see Times Square they were amazing and Joe is soooo nice. I can't wait for them to play at my wedding. Joe and Mary Ann give you really good personal attention. They hand delivered my contracts to my house and told me after I signed I can come to every showcase if I want. I have heard nothing but rave reviews about them

Re: Bands that Showcase or show videos
I'm probably going to go with a DJ. But my girlfried is a musician and told me (when I was looking) that bands who come recommend but don't showcase are usually less expensive because showcasing is costly and they have to pass that expense along. There is something to be said for bands that get enough work and recommendations and feel they don't HAVE to showcase. - I'm sure this is not 100% true but it's something to think about.

Re: Bands that Showcase or show videos
I don't think that is quite true. The couple who told me that they don't showcase were actually much more expensive than many who do. My concern with the no showcase is many friends booked bands like this on friends recommendations and there were frankly unhappy. We looked a couple of bands and noticed that some who do not showcase but will send you a cd were frankly not all that great (one of these was a house vendor for my sight). Bands like photographers though are very subjective. There are many bands out there because if only one or two appealed to everyone there would be no need to shop around. But in truth almost all of the bands we looked at were actually very different in their sound, energy, and depending on what feel you are going for will depend on who you like. Also I found a lot of the bands who do not showcase do many corporate parties where many companies book strictly by recommendations because they do not have time to attend showcases. Good luck with whoever you choose it was fun looking.
