So FH and I want to get a joint bank account before the wedding, to make depositing the checks easier.
How does this work with the whole name thing? I figure most people write checks out to Mr. & Mrs., but if my name isnt his last name yet officially, and my maiden name is on the bank account....do they still let you deposit them?
Just started thinking about this, b/c we have a check written out to our 2 names separate (with my maiden name), and they wouldn't let me deposit it into my individual account when I just tried. Also I guess he has to sign it as well?
I'm really slow when it comes to banking lol.

FH can sign all the checks and deposit them into the joint acct. Typically I never make out the checks to Mr. & Mrs. I normally do cash.
and Yes.. for an individually account both people listed on the check need to sign.

A few people have given us Mr. & Mrs. checks... Chase has let me deposit them in my account as long as Shaun signed it too.

um we have a savings account in both our names, and were going to get a joined checking account. you could have two names:
Mr. John Jones Miss. Mary Smith 123 Wedding Lane Greenlawn, NY 12345
on your check... then just change it after your married. or you can just leave it in either one of your names. FH used to sign his checks and I'd deposit them into my checking account. its just withdrawing that gets to be a pain, but I know at my bank I had the option of adding him to my account so he could withdraw, but he didn't want to do it.

I have another question..
If you ever need to buy FH/DH a gift.. How do you go about doing that if you have a joint account? lol

FH actually have a joint acct. Either one can deposit checks. If you get a check in both names, both sign it and one can deposit. Once ur married just bring in ur marrage cert and they will change your name.

I just signed all the checks 'For Deposit Only' and didn't have any problems

We have a joint account for all the bills and we each have a separate personal account...whatever we don't owe for bills we keep in the personal account and we use that for gifts.
