If we want to open a joint account before the wedding, is the name change thing going to be a problem? We would put his name and my maiden name on the account. Then after the wedding I would switch my name on the account right? I just don't want money laying around not collecting interest. What do you need to change the name at the bank after the new social security card?
All I needed to change my name on my bank account was my marriage certificate.
You dont even need the new ss card.. you just need the marriage certificate and they can just change that on the spot for you. It's not a big deal... they do it all the time. I work for a bank.
I worked at a bank for 4 years... each bank requires different things. You can open the joint account now and it won't be a problem. When you open it ask them what they will need to change the name. My bank only needs the drivers license....but if I want to change it right away, then I can bring in the marriage certificate. HTH
