Banquet managers are basically there to run you through what they offer and your contract, they're more in charge of sales and any upgrades or negotiations you want to make more than anything else. Wedding Coordinator or the Maitre'D are the ones who will help you day of the wedding and make sure everything goes smoothly and timely that day.
The banquet managers are there for the negotiations and sales initially. Then they will be the person you talk to when making your final menu and go through your things you drop off so they know where you want everything to go(card box, donation cards/scrolls, plaque, ect.). Finally one of them will be your Matre D the night of your wedding. Samanthas job as far as I know is just pre-wedding helping out with getting some deals on invitations and is someone to talk to about the vendors. HTH

At my venue...I have been SOO fortunate to have the most amazing banquet manager. She is much more than just a banquet manager. She has helped me with everything and said she would be there on the day of to make sure everything is where i want it to be. So, I guess it depends on who you have and where your venue is. I am sure some Banquet managers(like mine) Go above and beyond what is expected and seem to take on the role of a coordinator...but there are probably a lot that do not.
