Question - I am Jewish and my husband is Catholic. We are trying to figure out what to do when the baby is born. For example, we would like to do both a baptism and a bris (if it's a boy, and a baby naming ceremony if it's a girl). Can this be done (at separate ceremonies)? If you have a baptism, do you absolutely need godparents? If so, do they both have to be Catholic and do they both have to swear to raise the child as a Catholic? Do Jews have godparents? Help!

Re: Baptism/Bris/Welcoming Ceremony
Phlys just did this. A lot depends on your Priest/Rabbi. I think she had to chose 'one' main religion and the Catholic Church only did a Welcoming ceremony.

Re: Baptism/Bris/Welcoming Ceremony
hi there- we did not chose one main religion and then the other as a 'sub' choice. Both are equal. WE were only able to do this becuase we insisted ...and the monsigneur that married us belives it makes for a stronger community to include people of various religions rather than to exclude them After all, roots of christianity origniate in Judiasm.
FM mail me if you need any more specifics other than what I posted today... Id be happy to help if I can.
Your biggest step is to find a rabbi/cantor that is willing to do this. I can reccomend ...
