I went to Barbie's a few weeks ago, if that's the store you mean....no appt. necessary. They have bridal, bm and evening gowns...I even found a gown that I liked but won't work for my wedding...

They are very rude so make sure that you have a thick skin if you choose to deal with them.

I'm not sure, but are you talking about Barbie's on 86th Street? If so, yes everyone is right, they are so !@#%#$^.

They are rude. The only good experience I had with them was when I needed my BM dress for my BF's wedding. She purchased her dress and the BMs dressesscame from there too. During that time, they were very nice but other times when I had to deal with them they were nasty.

You know, I never even thought much about them being rude...they're a bunch of old ladies, for the most part, who've worked there for the last 50 years and I guess if you ignore them, like I did you won't even notice...but it's true, they can be very snappish...the woman who helped me when I was there was bickering the whole time w/ another worker who was helping the bride next to me!

I bought my MOH gown (for my brothers wedding) from them.....I will never go into that store again. First off she and the rest of her staff are so rude. When I went in for my first fitting everything was fine, I went back for my 2nd fitting and they never took the dress in. Scheduled a 3rd fitting, dress comes downstairs still to big, so Barbie said stay here and I'll have them do it right now. So my Mom & I wait and wait and wait. Now its 9:00 and the seamstress comes down with my dress IN A BALL with her coat and purse, throws my dress on the counter and leaves. The dress is wrinkled beyond hell, and the seams are all frayed, I tell her that I am not happy with it at all. She tells me that there is nothing wrong with it.

So after a half assed steaming I took the dress home, only to notice the hem on the bottom was completely screwed up. I ended up having to bring it to a seamstress who fixed it as best she could. I called Barbie and told her I wanted the money back for the alterations from her store and the money for the alterations that had to be done to fix the dress.

After 3 months of harrassment on my part she gave me back the money

I know, I used to live in that neighborhood and they have a reputation for being outright rude. As a matter of fact over the summer my FMIL who lives in florida was in town and we went looking for a dress. My FMIL has an accent and when we said that we needed to possibly have the dress shipped to her if we found something she liked. They replied by saying that they don't ship overseas. How dare they assume that she was not an American. I found this really insulting. FH said I was over-reacting but I thought it was rude.

That store is a few blocks from where I live... They're very snooty & pricey!
