Bars on the Upper East Side with a very low level of douchebaggery?

Original post by kris_gets_hitched

UES is not my usual stomping ground.

Please suggest bars that DO NOT specialize in the following:

- typical frat b.s.
- overall douchebaggery
- dress codes
- snotty bouncers/doorpeople
- clubby atmosphere

If you know of any place that's similar to places on the LES, that would be appreciated too. Though I think that *might* be wishful thinking on my part.

Places with an extensive beer list would be appreciated too. Live music is a plus, jukebox that is not full of U2, John Mayer and Kings of Leon is also a definite plus.

Session 73 (i think its 73rd and 1st) has a live band friday nights and is fun

Dorians (84th and 2nd)

Mad River (82nd or 83rd and 3rd)

Pat O'Briens (88th and 2nd)

Aces & Eights - have beer pong tables
(87th and 1st)

I actually loved all these bars a couple of years ago but they now that I'm 29, I feel like a senior citizen at these bars -- If you aren't looking for that scene, not so great....

Aces and Eights are good and Hi Life (someone also recommended) are great!

Becky's on First Ave and ... the low 60s. I can't remember exactly which block. It's pretty laid back and they have munchies if you get hungry, but I don't remember if there's live music there. Also O'Flanagan's on First and 65th.

I live on UES!

Becky's is on my corner, on First b/t 63rd and 64th. Its fine, good for FH who plays golden tee there but not great. I like Baker Street on my corner actually, 63rd and First Avenue.

I'll think of more....

Haha, I work at the hospital right up there so these are my happy hour haunts

I've never been to Baker Street but have been meaning to!

Which hospital? NY Presbyterian? So you must know the golden tee that my FH lives for.

Go to Baker Street! We do trivia there on Wednesday nights sometimes--super fun! I can't believe you haven't been there and work right there! GOOO!!
