So FH and I live in a tiny apartment with no plans to move anytime soon, no plans for kids and I don't cook or clean. My BP and family are very sweetly throwing me a shower, which is very very appreciated, but we just don't need the usual bridal shower stuff! I registered for sheets and towels and all the stuff we could possibly use in double, but its not enough. So.. I want to register for lingerie and honeymoon wear type items. Nothing really explicit, but nightgowns and fancy undies as well as nice bath salts and things like that. Is this tacky? There will be many older ladies at the shower and, although they would not say a thing, I don't want to embarrass or offend anyone. Most of them would probably get a kick out of it, I think. My BP would probably be too polite to tell me if they thought it was inappropriate, so I would like some objective opinions. TIA!

I don't think that's inappropriate at all! Why bite your tongue and get stuff that you won't use? I think it's a cute idea! If you dont wanna do lingerei, you can set up a honeymoon fund and just add double or triple of the bathroom items. Bed Bath & Beyond has so many bathroom things you can def build a registry in that dept alone! Or get a cleaning lady/chef fund! Free cleaning services for a year or something

Personally, I would find it a little tacky if that's what the registry looked like. I'd probably go for the sheets or something like that as a present. And if there wasn't anything like that left, I'd probably just give money.

You could do a honeymoon registry so people can contribute to activities you want to do on your honeymoon!
From what I've heard, although people contribute toward a specific activity (ie, couples massage or jetskiing), the $ that they contribute just rolls into a bank of funds, that way if you decide to do different activities, or use it to go for a nice dinner or something, you don't lose that $.

This. I only heard of this recently, but I like the idea, especially if you don't need the usual bridal shower stuff. I wouldn't feel comfortable buying boudoir-type stuff for a gift, but that's me personally.

I agree with this!

The Honeymmon fund is cute, but FH is surprising me with our honeymoon, I won't even know where we are going until the minute we leave, and he wouldn't want me to have people contributing to his surprise. It's a dilemma between just registering for stuff we don't need. I'd really rather they just come instead of bringing me stuff that will just go into storage forever

I think as long as the gift givers know you well enough to understand why you're not registering for the usual stuff, it's probably fine. And if they're invited to your shower, they obviously know you pretty well. Maybe your BP can theme it a lingerie shower and everyone can bring something- that might be easier to swallow than actually registering for these things- sort of like bringing things for a wishing well.

I agree with this! I used to work with a girl who was from Oklahoma and out there they do two showers a regular and lingerie shower. She explained that out there they are more old fashioned than us New Yorkers and that grandma would have a heart attack if she saw lingerie. However, out here it's almost expected that you get lingerie at your shower so I don't see why you couldn't register for it! You know your guest the best so I say go for it if you think they would be comfortable with it!!

Thanks all. I have definitely been to lingere showers before, but they were not usually a mix of ages like this will be. Something to think about!

Bath and Boudoir Registry- Tacky or No?
At my bridal shower I received typical registry gifts and lingerie so I personally don't see the big deal. I don't find it inappropriate at all.
After the bridal shower I would just remove any boudoir items not bought from the registry. The registry will then be small and most likely people will just give money as a wedding gift.
P.S. my grandma gave me a ton of naughty gifts so it is not an age thing. It really depends on your family and their sense of humor.
