Which of the two did you decide ... and how??? Was it based on your venue? Type of experience you wanted? Budget? Which do you prefer when attending a party/wedding?

Re: Battle of the Band vs DJ
I am the type of person that if I want to hear a particular song - I want the original version - not some other person's (or bands) version - so we went with a DJ. Yes, I do feel that a band would have been better for my venue - but - we felt that it would be more fun for us to have a dj

We went with a DJ because of two reasons: 1. DJ is MUCH cheaper than a band (remember that you also have to tip each member of your band AND feed them)
2. FH has a very sensitive ear when it comes to music so if a band is even slightly off-key, he will hear it and get very annoyed.

originally... i wanted to book a dj... it's MUCH cheaper and you'll always get the songs you want...
but when i started looking at bands... i was sold. they present a very lively appearance... and they really get the crowd going. i didn't want a 'club' atmosphere... so the band suited my venue perfectly.

I wanted a band - DH wanted a DJ. Price won out and we got a DJ (who was fantastic). To compromise, we had a live piano player during the CH and during dinner.

I always wanted a band, but last summer two of the weddings that I went to had bands (who were great), however BOTH of them sang their wedding songs wrong. (one if them was actually my wedding song as well). I would have made the band stop and restart... So, we decided on a DJ.

We went with a DJ. You get the actual song you want. It worked since the husband and I like dance music and we wouldnt have been able to get that from a band. A band is nice, they add a a different ambiance to the wedding, but its not the same songs.

Re: Battle of the Band vs DJ
i've only attended a few weddings here and most of them had DJs so we were going that route UNTIL i went to a wedding where they had a live band. wow. that made a difference! so me & FI decided on getting a band even if it costs more than a DJ!!

I went with a DJ because I felt like they could play more songs and if I didnt like something they could quickly switch to something else. Oftentimes with a band, they will play the entire song (whether you like it or not) and they take multiple breaks because they are exhausted from playing which breaks up the mood.

I really wanted a band and so did FH but i needed my own ethnic music at my wedding which I couldnt find with a lot of bands so i had to settle on a dj.

Re: Battle of the Band vs DJ
Both of us originally wanted a DJ. I had never been to a wedding with a band and I had a certain preceonceived notion of what a wedding band would be like. I also thought I only wanted the version of the songs I heard on the radio.
Until I heard Paris play at a Russo's showcase and my jaw dropped. Alison is UH MAZE ING. She's phenomenal, and so is the rest of the band. I fell in love with them and I really wanted to book them but We knew a band was going to be more expensive than a DJ but holy crap, we didn't know HOW MUCH more expensive!!
So we went back to DJ and got a good compromise: jazz trio for CH and we added a vocalist and keys for during reception where he'll sing low key stuff during courses and calmer moments.
I do still wish we could have booked Paris though. If anyone is looking for a band, seriously check them out.
