I got something that was not on my registry, but they didn't scan it so it's not appearing on my registry even after they bought it. Can that be returned to the store without a receipt, or store credit be given?

i returned things there not on my registry, they gave me store credit without a receipt
i even returned stuff bought at another store without realizing they carried the same brand.
