ok ladies...I've never been on birth control. For the last few months aunt flo has been visiting me on the 20th. My wedding date is the 22nd and honeymoon right after. I want to go on the pill to schedule her November visit and figured I should start now so it's regular by then. I need a LOW estrogen pill that WILL NOT make me gain weight. I am clueless....please help! TIA

Re: BC help
I'm using Yasmin and have been for 5 years... I haven't gained any weight (actually, started running more than I used to and lost a few).
I believe it's pretty low dosage..... I think they make even a lower dosage if not.

Great thanks! Also...does it take a certain amount of time to get pregnant after you get off the pill? I want to start IMMEDIATELY...talking honeymoon baby. Will that be a problem?

yes, it may be. many women are very irregular after coming off the pill. it took me almsot 3 months to get my period after stopping the pill. again, that's not the same for everyone, but it's very common.
also, most gyn's recommend that you are off the pill for a few months before trying to conceive.

UGH! That's what I thought! I don't know what to do! We want to try right after the wedding. Do I risk having it for the wedding and honeymoon or wait to try to conceive?

not sure what i would do if i were you....
i would say that since you've never been on the pill, i would say don't start, especially since you want to try and have a baby ASAP. you seem to be very regular, so having a baby may be very easy for you--- you'll know when you're ovulating. the BC hormones may put that out of wack.
but this is coming from somone that is very anit- birth control. i was on it, but i have now already had a lumptectomy on my breast and a tumor removed from my fallopian tube and a cyst off my ovary.... related to the BC, possibly. who knows!
but then, who wants Aunt Flo at the weddding??? geez, that's a tough one!
i think the best case scenario might be, go on it for a month or two and then stop. also, i would imagine it is the women that have been on it for years are the ones that take so long to become regular on their own again. i would talk to your gyn.

Yea...I was always so afraid to go on the pill bc of the side effects ( the real ones... not gaining weight!) I always felt like it was messing with the natural order of things...yea I'm a freak like that! I don't know....I'll talk to my gyn...thank so much!

Re: BC help
Check with your gyn, it could have changed. Years ago, when I was on the pill, I was told I need to wait a min of 2 cycles to try to conceive. You are at a greater risk of birth defects or miscarriage. This was in 1995, medicine could have changed since, but I would def look into first. Also, my FH's brother's girlfriend went on the pill to avoid the cycle for a cruise and she ended up having it anyway. It can take awile to regulate after you start, all things you should check with your gyn.

Re: BC help
i'm a nursing student and when patients ask questions about changing or stopping the pill i always tell them that this is something you really need to talk with your GYN about .... every woman is different depending on a whole bunch of different factors (age, years of being on the pill, hormone levels, previous side effects, future concerns, half life overlapping of pills....) give her your concerns and see what she can do for you... because never the less you want to be safe whenever playing around with medications(plus she/he has had to have a patient in the same boat as you before)...
