I have been on my bc pill for over 10 years now...I am planning on stopping it the mont before the wedding bc we are going to try for a HM baby
Heres my question.
How soon after you stop the pill do you get your period? Im afraid if I stop it in Aug I will end up getting it on my wedding day.
Anyone know?

Re: BC Pill Ques
Everyone is a little different, and it will take a little while for your body to straighten itself out once you stop.
Personally, i stopped my BC at the end of the pack, got my period like usual (only lasted a week thank god, alot of people Ive heard have their period for two weeks sometimes), and i got my period right on schedule every month since ive stopped, no skips or anything. I would just suggest stopping your pills at the end of your pack, don't stop in the middle or anything. IMO

Re: BC Pill Ques
it depends on the pill. I was on the mini pill and was once I went off I continued my normal (28 day) cycle.

Re: BC Pill Ques
I've been off the pill almost 5 years.. well maybe 4 lol. from what i remember when i stopped taking it i continued to get my period 28 days apart - which was the whole reason i went on it to begin with, i used to get it 7-9 days about 2½ weeks apart.
everyone is different
i know my bff has severe problems down there, had surgery and it cut her chances of having a baby in half... she was on the pill... they wanted a baby and talked to the dr her problem came back (but was caught early and was taken care of) her dr told her to go off the pill and wait 3 months... yea... within a month she was pregnant... and now today is her HEALTHY sons 1 month birthday!

Re: BC Pill Ques
Call your gyno, maybe they can advise you how to change the time of the month you get your period...gradually. (my gyno told me once i can just continuously take 2 months of pills in a row to skip a period)

Re: BC Pill Ques
If you go off the pill before the wedding, there's no way to predict if you'll have your period for your wedding or on your HM. There's also no certainty you'll be ovulating on your HM.
If it were me, I'd stay on the pill until after the wedding and HM to ensure I'm period-free for that time. Then go off the month after the wedding and start trying then. Otherwise, you could have cramps and your period when you'd rather be swimming (or whatever!) on you HM!

My suggestion is to ask your gyno, they would know best! But I do know that once you stop the pill your going to get your period and might take your body a little while to readjust itself!

If I stop my pill, I get it that very month. I'd say just wait until after the wedding to go off of it. Doctors can also give other meds to 'bring on' your period sooner than it should (i.e. a week or two before your wedding), to push your cycle off, but I've heard mixed things about that working.

Re: BC Pill Ques
Everyone's body is different- When I went off the pill my period was a little unpredictable for a few months. The first period I had after stopping the pill was miserable. I had terrible cramps- I NEVER had cramps before going on the pill. If you really want a HM baby you may want to consider stopping the pills now to give your body a chance to adjust but there is no way to predict what is going to happen. It is also important to talk to your Dr. about taking vitamins BEFORE getting pregnant. BC pills tend to deplete folate which is VERY important - Folate deficiency is linked to neural tube defects. Give your gyn a call to set up an appointment.

Re: BC Pill Ques
I was on BC just as long as you and when i stop I got my period right on schedule. So like said b4 everyone is different. I never had irregular periods b4 the pill so it picked up where it left of whe I came off. I was also on Many forms of BC and still had no irregularity problems. Now as far as fertility and a HM baby... I know people who have gotten pregnant right away after getting off of BC. I also know people who have gotten pregnant while on BC (yea that 1% chance) and others who it takes a while. So its pretty much like rolling the dice. No way to tell for sure. I would say stop some time b4 you wedding and go to the GYN to test you fertiliy and see what the doc says. they would be able to tell you what your odds are.

Oh yes and start taking folic acid or prenatals right away to decrease the chance of this defect. I have epilepsy and my meds do the same thing as far as decreasing your folic acid which is very important in the beginning stages of egg fertilization so my docs keep me on a high level of folic acid just in case even though I have no plan on conceiving any time soon.

ita..my gyno told me that when I know I am ready to have a baby I should take follic acid at least for a few months and then go off the pill...

Re: BC Pill Ques
I started taking prenatal vitamins 3 months ago and if I choose to try for a baby it will be after the wedding. I don't want to go off the pill before because I haven't had my period in over 3 years.
Two of my dr.'s said the best time to try is the first 3 months that you go off the pill. Others say wait only because if you know your cycle, you have a better shot of know when your best time is. It's all a crap shoot...so most of their advice is to go off the pill and just have fun and don't stress, that is the worst thing you can do. But do go on prenatal vitamins ASAP.
