Be careful girls~! We got robbed on our wedding day! (LONG)

Let me start by saying that our wedding day was the MOST amazing day ever! I think maybe this incident is the 'what went wrong' part. Basically what happened was that our money card holder box was broken into and some whole envelopes and some money out of others were taken. The mistake was that the person who was collecting the cards/envelopes left the box in the bridal suite after the ceremony. He (as well as all of us) were told that the bridal suite would be closed/locked at ALL times. We were told that only our bridal attendant had the keys to the room. A couple of my bridal party members went into the room to get stuff and found the door unlocked and open! But at the time we were all too caught up in the wedding that we didn't realize! We didn't know what had happened until the night was over and my sister-in-law opened the box to put in her card and saw that there were envelopes that looked like they were ripped open. She called to ask if we had taken some money out already.

Girls! Please be careful! Make sure that you have someone you trust and knows what to do taking care of stuff like this! We asked my cousin to do it and it was his first time doing it. He didn't know what to do with the box afterwards and felt that the bridal suite would be the safest and smartest place to leave it! We don't blame him! Hubby and i should have realized it but like i said we were so caught up with the wedding! I'm posting this so that others can learn from our mistakes and happenings! Isn't this what this forum is about?! We were really upset and disturbed when we found out but we came to terms with it. It was a lesson learned! We called the RH the day after to let our banquet manager know what happened and what we got was basically that it was our fault for leaving it there. True but i feel like they were wrong to tell us that it would be locked at all times! He then let us know that a couple of people have access to the room with keys and all! We have our suspects in mind but no evidence to prove it...

Sorry so long but i wanted to share our mishap and let everyone know to enjoy the day but be alert and cautious too!

OMG!! I am so sorry this happened to you! How horrible that someone did this to you on the happiest day of your life!! What is wrong with people?

I have also heard of this happening.
Perhaps RH should take a cue and provide an in suite safe, like in a hotel room, for all valuables.

My Dad will be keeper of the envelope bag at his table. This way I can be assured that they will be safe.

After reading this I think I may tell my sister that when she gets envelopes to give it to me and that I will put them in the cardbox but have the cardbox under the table the minute she gives me that first envelope.

Thats a reason why we made sure to use a card box that has only one slit and the only way to get the envelopes out of the box would be to rip the entire box apart. Ive heard so many of these stories!

Just to add to this ... I've been a BM in several weddings over the last 2 years and the bridal suite was never locked or guarded for any of them. Fortunately I haven't heard of theft from any of those, but these girls were also told that the rooms would be locked and they weren't.

I would try to keep eye on it yourself.
At my brothers wedding several years ago his best man who he was bestfriends with since grammer school was caught in the bathroom ripping open and flashing cards.

i am soooo very sorry to hear about this. that really stinks.

honestly--i think one of the best spots for the cardbox--is at a table behind the bride and groom. the cardbox wasn't put out until the reception--and they had it and the guestbook next to each other--it was behind us and diaganolly located from a table with our closest family & friends---i let everyone know ahead of time--keep your eye on the box.

for the entire reception--that box stayed RIGHT there, and it was never touched until the end of the reception when we were going to leave. if you are going to have a card box ladies--keep it CLOSE to the bride & groom--at at least by a table full of ppl that you know will be chking on it. plus it doesn't hurt to tell your captain or bridal attendant that they should keep an eye on it and make sure no one is taking anything out of the box.
