DH sent me this. He is VERY careful about these things, so take care gals...
There is a major phishing scam that is starting to appear on the Internet. Cyber thieves are trying to capitalize on the $168 billion stimulus payment distribution.
The scam is an e-mail that has an IRS logo at the top of the message. That logo is authentic in that it is actually copied directly from the IRS website. The e-mail appears to come from '[email protected]' or ' Internal Revenue Service (IRS) < [email protected]>' and has a subject line of '2008 Economic Stimulus Refund'.
The body of the e-mail may say something like: 'Over 130 million Americans will receive refunds as part of President Bush's program to jump start the economy' or 'Our records indicate that you are qualified to receive the 2008 Economic Stimulus Refund'. There is also a link within the e-mail. By clicking the link users are taken to a phishing site . At the phishing site users are prompted to enter their bank routing number and checking account number with the promise that the rebate will be directly deposited into their checking account.

snail mail is still good for something! we should always remember that if it is something as important and private as that, they will actually send a real letter about it!
