be careful with invite postage

be careful with invite postage

i had my invites weighed at one post office last week and they told me it would cost 58 cents to mail them out. they didn't have the 58 cent love stamp, so i bought the 41 cent stamp for the rsvp cards and decided to go to another post office to find the other stamps.

thankfully, i had the next post office weigh my invite as well. they told me that it would be 97 cents to mail ... not the 58 cents i was originally told. apparently when they increased the postage a few months ago, new rules now apply. my invite was bigger than the standard 'letter' size by about 1/4 of an inch (it's a 6 x 6 pocketfold invite) and it's over an ounce in weight. so, according to this post office, i have to pay a service charge because they cannot go through the meter. i decided to use both love stamps and pay 99 cents per invite (i liked the look!).

lesson here ... you might want to have your invites weighed at 2 different post offices in order to make sure you have the correct amount in postage.

p.s. i went back to the second post office today with my invites ready to mail. the woman remembered me and asked how i made out. she said she'd personally hand cancel them all for me! talk about personal service!

This happened to me at the same post office. I went in the am to buy the stamps, the guy said .58. then I went back to mail and asked woman to hand cancel. That's when she measured them. The guy was there and said 'oh, they didn't look oversize to me.'

ITA! I had my invites checked at 2 post offices just to be sure I had the correct postage. My dad thought I was crazy but I didn't care!

Same thing happened to me, they first said 58 cents. When I went in to have them hand canceled I asked to re weigh them just to make sure and sure enough I needed to add 39 cents to each envelope, which ended up being the 41 cent stamp. Thank god I had them re check it!

Oh, and I had to hand cancel them... what a disaster!

I went to the post office and one guy told me it was just 58 cents to mail. I asked if I had to pay extra because it was a square (6x6 pocketfold) They guys says 'oh yeah, it's probably going to be more' gee thanks!! So I got 75 cent stamps and they all went out ok except for 1 which came back because it needed extra postage, I don't know why 3 other invites went to the same place all with 75 cent stamps on them. It was crazy!! I;m just happy they're all finally out!

Yes the rules are out of control at the PO

They charge you all this money b/c it wont 'fit' but then they cant even tell you the correct amount b/c they dont even know how it really goes
