I am going for my doctorate in education and the program is really strict as in you cant miss ANY classes or ull be kicked out....
I just got my schedule and I found out that I have class on my friend's wedding and my fh is in the wedding party. I tried doing everythign and anything and I cant miss the class. Its from 9-5 and its a day wedding from 12-5. My fh is still going obviously but I cant. I need to call her tomorrow and tell her.
Do you think she's is going to be pissed?? I really dont think she's gonna understand that I cant miss class and I just got my schedule for next semester now.

I agree just tell her and she kinda has to understand bc its for your career and you can't miss and don't want to get kicked out she should understand that!

How about if u talk to ur professor directly? If I was the bride, I'd understand but I know some brides take it to heart

I would only be pissed if I had already given my final count but since she probably didn't do that yet I think she might be sad but not mad.
Just be really honest..Plus I would still take to my professor maybe if you can do that class work ahead of time they might let you miss the one class for a valid reason

Are you very close with her? I think if I was her I would be upset even though I knew it wasn't right to be upset with you. I want all my close friends to be at my wedding and if someone couldn't make it I would be sad. That said I think your school is a priority and if you can't get out you can't get out and have to tell her.

This. Completely. I'd talk to the professor, but give your friend a heads up that there's a strong possibility you won't be there. Then make it clear to the professor that you're asking persmision, not teling them you're missing class and ask if there's any way around it.

I wouldnt be mad ifmy friend explained to me the same situation. its not your fault that class falls onth same day. there will be plenty of people who will not go to her wedding. she cant be mad at all of them. plus sheks gotta know that you would rather be at her wedding than at school from 9-5. Since her wedding ends at 5pm, maybe there's an after party and you can go to that, or a next day brunch.
Sorry that you feel bad about this. At least your thinking about your friend's feelings in this matter.
Sorry for the typos, I'm on my droid

As long as she didn't pay yet she will be much more understanding. At least I would be. Throw in some free tutoring for her future kiddies

Re: be honest....would u be mad???
I would talk to my teacher again. Say it is your sister or you are in the BP. There has to be a way around it. Say its in FL and you have plane tickets ! Something LOL!! I think it depends on the person if they would be mad or not. To be honest it sounds like BS. Please dont take that the wrong way bc I absolutely believe that it is true, but i can def see her not believing it. Its one of those 'excuses' that I can just hear people talking about . ' It just doesn't sound true. Some may understand and I hope she does.. but i can also def see a bridezilla ahead.
Good Luck Lovey!

Agreed. Knowing me, I'd be really upset...even if I knew deep down my friend couldn't do anything about it.

I wouldn't be mad at you, as your class schedule is not within your direct control. You tried to change the class, but you couldn't.
Explain this to her, and she shouldn't be mad at you.

It's easy would you be pissed if she missed your wedding? And would you understand? (pretending you were not in this class)

This. When you tell her, explain that you're still doing all you can to make it to her wedding, but wanted to give her a heads up that there's a chance you might have to miss it.
I would be dissappointed if a close friend didn't come, but would not be mad and would understand that people have priorities that they can't always change

Listen, you going for your doctorate is a major thing. It's something you have obviously been working very hard towards for many years and probably poured lots of money into to do so. I'm hoping that your friend has enough sense to see it that way and not be pissed at you. Sure, she's probably going to be upset that you are going to miss it but I see no reason why she should be angry. And the fact that your FH is still going is good since he's in the WP. I could see her getting pissed if because you aren't going he isn't going and then that affects them.

Re: be honest....would u be mad???
1) talk to the teacher and explain this is a family wedding that you are in the BP and you can not miss. There MUST be some exception to the rules, especially when the majoirty of students are adults with lives and families.~ maybe they are just saying this to prevent people from slacking.
2) As other said, as the bride I would be upset that my friend was not there to share in my big day, but understand that your career comes first.
3) make sure you explain that you will do everything in your power to really truly try and get there. We all know that you would rather be at a wedding then in class all day.
4) GOOD LUCK!
