I would talk to my teacher again. Say it is your sister or you are in the BP. There has to be a way around it. Say its in FL and you have plane tickets ! Something LOL!!
I think it depends on the person if they would be mad or not.
To be honest it sounds like BS. Please dont take that the wrong way bc I absolutely believe that it is true, but i can def see her not believing it.
Its one of those 'excuses' that I can just hear people talking about . ' It just doesn't sound true.
Some may understand and I hope she does.. but i can also def see a bridezilla ahead.

Good Luck Lovey!

this. i'd probably be upset and a little mad depending on how close we were. but obviously i would make myself understand that it'd be selfish to ask my friend to spend another year in school just to attend my wedding. i would just try everything in your power to be there. HTH!

Listen, you going for your doctorate is a major thing. It's something you have obviously been working very hard towards for many years and probably poured lots of money into to do so. I'm hoping that your friend has enough sense to see it that way and not be pissed at you. Sure, she's probably going to be upset that you are going to miss it but I see no reason why she should be angry. And the fact that your FH is still going is good since he's in the WP. I could see her getting pissed if because you aren't going he isn't going and then that affects them.

I was waiting for someone to say this. If she is really a friend, then she knows how long and hard you have been working for this. Yes the wedding is important...for HER. This is important for YOU. Sometimes that trumps. In this case, it does. She may be disappointed, but she'll get over it. Maybe meet up after if you can.

ITA.
I would completely understand. You being there or not is not going to change her day. On the other hand, you missing your class can change your future and all the money being invested in it.

She shouldn't be upset. There's nothing you can do about it.

All of this. I would be SOOOOOOOOO annoyed at her school. That is for sure.

I think she's going to understand, unless she doesn't believe you. Honestly I think my reaction would be 'Seriously, she can't miss ONE class?'

i wouldn't be mad, but disappointed for sure. I would try to talk to professor anyways just in case.

If I were in her shoes, I'd be upset and disappointed, but not mad. Just sad that you wouldn't be there!

I agree with others that there HAS to be a day around it! I mean, what if you get sick? Or (g-d forbid) have a death in the family? There's gotta be an exception...

One of my best friends couldnt come to my wedding because she was in a wedding the same weekend.... and the bride was making them go out to the hamptons for the entire weekend... she even had to take pictures the day before the wedding...

I was upset because never in my life did i picture her not there... her entire family was there except for her... i was mad at the other bride for being a zilla and requesting something so stupid of her BM's... but i was never ever mad at my friend... no one has a right to be mad about this... being upset that you cant go is one thing but being mad at you is just wrong

Re: be honest....would u be mad??? UPDATE

thanks girls...I spoke to her today. She was very accepting about it. I am going to try to talk to the professor and maybe go in a lil late and make the church, if not i told her id meet up w/ them afterwards bc its a day wedding

I still feel horrible tho, but theres nothing i can do....trust me id much rather be at a wedding dancing and drinking w my friends then at class from 9-5

It depends on how close i am with the friend but as a bride i might be mad- depends on how close.

what if u were sick and u missed class? is that allowed? just wondering.

hope she understands.

As a current doctoral student...I am familiar with saying 'no' to people all the time (because of papers and school). They may get upset, but I've learned to be okay with them not understanding.
