Would you get angry if your FMIL bought her dress before your mother?
Personally, I come from a very traditional Italian household where the mother of the bride always picks her color first. However since my fmil is the devil in human form she has already informed me of her color choices....either black or white (this I definitely have a problem with) I told my mom this and of course her response was 'well i get first dibs on colors and you tell her that' But when it comes down to it, whoever gets their dress first, doesn't matter. My mother and I are enjoying this time together and NO ONE will ruin it for us. If FMIL really does get her dress first, so be it, yea I might get angry b/c my mother should choose first, but in the end I won't care, my mother is a wonderful person and will look amazing in anything!

i wouldnt have a problem about the color thing but then again im very close with my fmil, i dont mind if both my mom and her wear the same color, but i could def see how someone would especially if the 2 families are not as close.......
BUT i WOULD have a problem if she wore WHITE!!!!!! umm hellloooooo is she kidding with that??!!! that is seriously wrong 100%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I think that would bother me. I think mother of the bride should def pick first. Your fmil may wear white to your wedding? How do you feel about that?

o she was very serious...and i said somethign back to her about it saying its inapproriate and she just laughed it off....whatever, i don't have patience for the woman.

I don't have a FMIL, FH's mom passed when he was 13, but if I did have one and she wore white to my wedding... I would have someone... 'accidentally'... slip and spill Merlot all over her! WHOOPS.... hehe

yea i dont think i woudl care. even if they wore the same color.. and id oubt they would care either. but we're also very laid back (ha! well they are im not) so its not somethign that would upset them. at least i dont think it would lol

Im fortunate that never in a million years will my mom and his mom pick the same color. My mom wants to get whatever length his mom is getting which i said I wanted everyone to have floor length.

Don't stress over it. You know what you are dealing with. Besides, if she goes white tell her she looks fat.........black would be a better color IT'S SLIMMING YOU KNOW. Black is classic and goes with anything.

i already know FH's mom will most likely buy a black dress so as long as my mom knows the color i dont think she would care who buys the dress first.

i don't think i would have a problem with that. i guess cuz fmil is waiting for my mo to get here first. but what i will have a problem with is fmil wearing white or black. i would def sit and talk to fh about this one and maybe her can talk to her as well.

My FMIL won't choose her dress before my mother she knows about this! plus she's been asking me what color might my mother wear...I saw this argument last night in the 09 boards it turned pretty ugly ...people calling each other names it was crazy

I would definitely. My FMIL has already found a dress on line that she likes and would like to buy. She has not gone out to buy it yet. BUT she showed me a picture of it, asked me what colors I'm putting BM's in, and asked what color my mom is wearing. She told me what color she'd LIKE to buy it in, but she even said herself 'etiquette says MOB picks first, so if your mom wants this color (or similar) I can pick a different color.'
I think it's funny that she already has a pic of the dress printed out and she's SO excited about it. Luckily, I think she'll be able to get it and in the color she wants b/c it's not the same as the color my mom wants or the BM's. But I'm very happy that she had the respect for my mother and me to ask first.
And yes, if she wore white, I agree that I'd have someone 'accidentally' spill red wine all over it!
ETA: black is ok if you're ok with it. But I've already told my mother and FMIL there are three colors I prefer them not to wear: white (obviously), red (my BM's), and black. I feel like they need to stand out more since they're part of the wedding, and so many guests will be wearing black.

my mom bought her dress when i bought mine so we dont have to worry about that happening. FMIL asked what color my mom picked, so she wont pick it.

i read this yesterday on the 09 board too!!
my FMIL has read the etiquette book 1 too many times. so i am sure she is aware that my mom picks her color first. however if she found a dress first i am sure my mom would not care.
