Any girls succeed in having a friend marry them legally on Long Island?
We really want FH's best friend (for the past 26 years) marry us, and he's willing to go through the steps to get ordained online, but we want to make sure it's legal.
I've read a whole bunch of stuff and some say that as long as it's not NYC we can have him marry us, but then somewhere else says it depends on the county and even the town.
Anyone know???
We just want to make sure that we follow the proper steps.
If it's not possible, anyone know what the cheapest way is to have someone 'legal' stand by and sign off on the ceremony?
Thanks!!!!

Re: Becoming an officiant on Long Island?
in the very worst case, you can always go to a town hall and get officially married there in the morning, and then have your friend 'officiate' (though he/she wouldn't really do anything)

That's what we're thinking of for a backup, but we really want our ceremony to be the 'real' ceremony.
Anyone else?

be careful with that... my uncle did it for my brothers wedding... but my uncle is a friggin wackjob... so my brother regretted doing this...
i dont know if he did new york state or new york city... but they were married at the swan club and my uncle lives in California so i know for sure he didnt do it through the town.

I was recently ordained but there is a registration process that differs by county.

Does it depend on the county where the ceremony is going to be or where the person getting ordained lives. Would I call town hall for that?
