Ok so I have decided to become catholic. Not sure what i have to do. I know there are classes that I would have to take. I was never baptized. Does anyone know how long this process will take.

Re: Becomining a Catholic
I would suggest you make an appointment with the parish you would like to join and have a discussion with the priest there, he'll give you all the infromation you need to know. I'm sure it is somewhat of a lengthy process. My FH is baptized but did not make communion or confirmation, he does not have to in order for us to get married but he decided he may choose to. We went in May and father had advised he most likely wouldn' t be able to complete both before our March wedding.

i would think it would take some time. best is to talk to someone from the parish first to make sure about the time line. every parish and priest can be differentt.
Good Luck!!

Re: Becomining a Catholic
some churches will offer the baptism and then have classes for the communion and confirmation after for a few weeks. my friend did it in college and i dont think it took her very long, but it was upstate.
def call the church you want to get married in and meet with the priest there.. chances are he will be the one to marry you too!

I think its about a 6-9 month process and it is called RCIA. For my parish (my aunt ran the program for years), classes are on Sunday mornings and you are required to attend mass either before or after the class. I believe you actually receive all your sacraments at the same time and this is done the Easter Vigil. HTH!

I actually had a similar question but FH is the one that needs to be baptized. We are looking into it some time next week. I'll let you know how it goes!

Yes, the Easter Vigil is when you receive the sacraments. My mom was a leader for a few years and she had the classes at her house during the week. I think she had them on Thursday nights.

I am in the RCIA program in Westbury at St. Brigid's Church. The program is 1-2 years long and we meet before mass, go to half of the mass, and then meet in a group while the rest of mass takes place. We will be making our sacraments at Easter Vigil.

It does seem like a long time but for someone like me who wasn't raised Catholic, there is a lot to learn.

Good point that there would be a lot to learn if you are brand new!! But I'm pretty sure its more like 6-9 months ending at Easter Vigil, as someone said earlier.
