Been knocking this idea around in my head.... (repost from BHB)
...for quite sometime. I think I want to go back to school to get my masters in education. I think every single day while I'm stuck behind a desk what a dummy I was to not follow thru with my education major and switch it to a communication major (which IMO now means the same as liberal arts). So, I can't afford to go back full time to a classroom setting (gotta work too), but I'm considering doing online courses to complete my masters. Any feedback? One more question... should I take my certification test first or do my masters first, or does it not matter. Any help would be wonderful! TIA

Hmmm... Well there are alternate routes to getting your education degree. I will do some research on that for you - because I now live in CT I have to refresh my NY information in my head.
If you want to teach I HIGHLY suggest you look into secondary education. We need Math and Science teachers SOOOOOOOOOOOOO badly. I think Foreign Languages and Special Ed are other subjects that need help as well. If you want to do elementary ed you will be looking for a job along with the rest of Long Island. I really advise against it. It truly is a losing battle in my opinion. If you are hell bent on it though just prepare to work in Queens. I would rather work in Queens if I was still living on LI anyway - I enjoy working with needy kids - I did the rich district thing - NEVER AGAIN! Needy kids are much easier to work with than needy parents - trust me!
Let me look around a bit and I will get back to you.

Thank you soo soooo much! I would definitely look into doing secondary educ. and have come to terms that I would probably have to start in Queens and over the years work my out onto the island. I also looked into the Teaching Fellowship in NYC at the suggestion of another LIW-er. I really appreciate your feedback and help!
