Before you started TTC

Before you started TTC

Did you have any tests to make sure everything in the fertility department was okay?

I'm not basing my fear on any evidence, it's just something I worry about.

I did basic tests - had my 6 month pap and the OBGYN ran blood work, etc.

I'm a 'better safe than sorry person' (aka a worrier) so I wanted to make sure everything was alright so there were no suprises along the way.

But no 'fertility' tests per se.

We didn't do any tests. If TTC ends up being a problem we will have tests done but I'm hoping to avoid that.

Only my regular visit at first, in which he prescribed my pre-natals. Then when I had a little trouble- a few months went by and nothing he prescribed clomid.

My doc tested me to see if I was a carrier for cystic fibrosis and to see if I had rubella immunity.

I don't think unless you are a high genetic risk they will do any other testing but I could be wrong.

Believe me I understnad I am the biggest worry wart ever. If I could take drugs I would be taking them for pregnancy induced anxiety.

Sorry I missed the fertility part but my info could be useful anyway.
No fertility tests. My doc said if you're not pregnant in a year come back.

Prenatal vitamins are excellent before even trying to TTC to build up your folic acid.

I didn't but wish I did I didn't think it would be taking this long and now I don't know why it is!

Re: Before you started TTC

Thanks everyone. Don't know why I'm so worried about it. Once DH mentioned to me that while in college, he tried to donate sperm and they wouldn't take it because his sperm count was too low... But, I guess that taht was college and there were various substances involved which do have negative effects. And sperm counts can fluctuate, no?

As far as I can tell, I have and always have had a normal period every month, so I don't imagine anything is wrong...still, can't get it out of my head that when the time comes we'll have trouble...we're not even TTC for another 2 years or so!

I wouldn't worry about it for now. Obviously contnue with regulat gyno appointments. When you are ready to start TTC, you should just start thinking about taking vitamins. My dr. told me not to bother with prenatals, #1 because they're kind of expensive and #2 bcause they're HUGE. She said to just take a daily multi-vitamin.

same here

i went for an annual a few weeks ago and told her that we are going to start TTC in june. i asked if we could do some preliminary fertility testing and she said that she only likes to do it after we have tried for a few months. she did however, prescribe prenatals and sent me for hormone blood work.

DEFINETLY schedule an appt w/ your dr prior to TTC. TMI, but my pap came back w/ a slight infection so she put prescribed some medicine. she said that if the infection (bacterial vaginosis) went undetected and i got preggo that there could a chance of pre-term labor or low birth weight. for my own sanity i plan to go back again in about a month for another pap.
