Okay I have this STRANGE problem with belly buttons. I cannot HANDLE mine being touched. It totally freaks me out and gives me this really strange feeling deep in my stomach. My sister has the same thing. We always joke that our dad must have done something wrong when he cut our cords.....Like yanked it first or something.
Anyway - it's hard enough that my belly button is YUCK...coming OUT!!! UGH!!! But I am super anxious about treating the baby's little cord stump. I know this sounds crazy, but the feeling is like nails on a chalkboard for me...my knees go weak and everything! Of course, I have all intentions of telling my husband that 'the dad deals with that' -which is what I have told him about numerous things I am wanting to pass off on him - but I think we all know it will be me in the end....
So go ahead lay it on me. What does it consist of. Is it ugly and hard and YUCK! I can't stand it!!!!! (that green face says ACK and that is SO the feeling!!!) Do I need special outfits for it? Like with a hole cut out....ugh.....anybody?

Re: Belly Button YUCKY cord question
I feel for you b/c I do not have any hang-ups about my own belly button, but the baby's cord really skeeved me! Sorry, Jenny...you asked for honest!
YOu really only have to treat the cord stump 2x a day...with an alcohol swab to help dry it out, so that it will fall off. It only lasts about 2 weeks ....no special outfits! And you could get lucky - Anna' JA lost his cord stump before they left the hospital!

Re: Belly Button YUCKY cord question
I remember my little's brother being a hard, black thing but it is soooo little it is different than an adult's Jenny. And between all the poop, and other 'fun' mommy things it is probably not hard to put a dab of alchol on. It does comes off pretty quickly so it isn't a long term problem for you to deal with.
Honestly, I have a feeling that those poop diapers will be A LOT harder to deal with
And you can always make it DH's job.

Jenny-I'm sitting here hysterical because I cannot stand to have my belly button touched-I can't even touch my own-it gives me the chills and I get that same yuck feeling in my stomach. I had gallbladder pain last year and to have it out laparscopically they make an incision in your belly button-well lets just say I never had that surgery done!

Stacey, LOL! re: the cat eating it!
And, am I a bad Mommy b/c I was skeeved? I couldn't help it...it upset me the most when it was half hanging off....I just could NOT deal with it!
Tangent, but some Mommies actually LIKE the cord stub and feel 'sentimental' about it...my aunt actually SAVED my cousin's cord stub...she just threw it away LAST YEAR when my cousin turned 21!!

Re: Belly Button YUCKY cord question
Im obviously not a mommy but when i used to do childcare, touching that thing was the nastiest part of the job. And saving it? I think i would throw up if I found that my parents had saved mine.

Re: Belly Button YUCKY cord question
Just trying to lend some support...you are not a bad mommy if you are grossed out. I know the women i worked for were not too fond of it either.
But maybe that changes when you have one of your own?
KP: Where did you put it?
