Re: belly fat
My weight gain also gets concentrated in my belly area, but mine is more firm fat.
I would say watch out for sugary drinks and carbs. They're killers.

Re: belly fat
Carbs Carbs Carbs!! I have the same problem, and whenever I cut down on carbs, the belly 'squishiness' starts to diminish instantly.

Re: belly fat
I notice that the more I stress the more puffy my stomach gets... Probably from cortisol or something....or it could just be the carbs from comfort foods...
Try to stay away from alot of sugary drinks and really salty food...both can lead to stomach pudge

Re: belly fat
thanks girls. it probably is the carbs, i'm big on them. but now, being a vegetarian, what can i replace it with? that's usually the bulk of my meals. plus, are there fruits that i should eat more of or something?
oh, and about soda, yeah i've lately started drinking more soda than water, but i am definitely trying to cut back down. damn,it's so addicting!

Re: belly fat
try doing cardio - i do the eliptical machine and another machine that is kind of like a stepper - and i squeeze my abs the entire workout - that def helps - sometimes i dont hold on while i am doing cardio machines and you end up using your stomach for balance - i think it naturally happens, but its really good for the stomach as well.....

Re: belly fat
definitely carbs!!
I have been eating salad and yogurt for lunch everyday since I noticed the extra belly fat (and my jeans not fitting so nicely) and I have noticed a major difference when I watch my carbs (aka no carbs for lunch and very little at dinner)

Re: belly fat
diet and cardio are best for your abs. I like spin classes at the gym- I feel they go by fast and are actually fun!!! I am a veggie too so I know about carbs- it's all I eat!!! I am just trying to stay away from chocolate... TRYING....

Re: belly fat
I suggest drinking lots of water, it always makes my stomach feel less bloated. And lots of cardio workouts make my pants fit me better too.

hi, i'm pretty much fat all over so i'm really not one to give advice in this area......but, you should check out the book by dr. oz called You on A Diet. its about belly fat and how to trim down your waist. a lot of it is salads, nuts, veggies, soy, etc so even though there is meat involved you could easily substitute it with other protein. my FH and I did it for two weeks and he went down TWO pants sizes! i lost about 9 pounds too!

Re: belly fat
i'm a vegetarian too and can tell you it's most likely the carbs and what you're drinking. for a quick fix, stop drinking everything with calories - meaning limit it to just water and an occasional (not all the time as it's still bad for you) diet soda. you'll be surprised how much better you'll seel and how much you'll lose just by doing that.
also, limit your carbs. instead if it being 'the bulk of your meals,' make protein the main dish. tofu, wheat gluten, beans, soy, etc. that should be your main portion followed by fruits/veggies, and then carbs. i used to work for a guy who was a personal trainer on the side and he said that vegetarians often have a hard time getting toned/look 'fluffy' because they don't get enough protein so there's nothing to build muscle. plus, an unbalanced diet will just make you feel like crap after a while.
